South Korea’s A Lim Kim clinched her first LPGA title as a tour member at the Lotte Championship, narrowly edging Russia’s Nataliya Guseva by two strokes in her 100th start since claiming a major title. The victory catapulted Kim into the field for the CME Group Tour Championship, marking a significant milestone in her career. Kim expressed her joy at the win, stating that “everything is getting better,” and seemed at ease in Hawaii, even participating in the traditional hula dance.

Despite posting three top-10 finishes earlier in the season in 25 starts, Kim had yet to secure a title until her win at the Lotte Championship. With a closing score of 4-under 68 for an 18-under total, she managed to stay ahead of Guseva, who put up a fierce fight with a closing 69. Guseva, the first Russian to earn an LPGA card, expressed her determination and resilience, stating that she “really did [her] best out there” and never gave up.

In addition to Kim and Guseva’s impressive performances, rookie Auston Kim also stood out with a career-best third-place finish at the championship. This result greatly improved her chances of qualifying for the CME Group Tour Championship, as the top 60 players in the CME points race earn spots in the season-ending event, which boasts a winner’s check of $4 million. Auston Kim’s success moved her up to 64th place in the standings, showcasing her potential as a rising star in the world of professional golf.

For veteran player Angela Stanford, the Lotte Championship marked a memorable moment as she played her final round in her last season on the LPGA tour. The 46-year-old, who has won seven LPGA titles and played full time on tour for 24 years, finished with a strong performance, tying for 26th place. Reflecting on her career, Stanford expressed her pride in being able to play her game and hit every green on the back nine, showcasing her skill and dedication to the sport throughout her long and successful career.

Overall, the Lotte Championship was a thrilling event that showcased the talent and resilience of players like A Lim Kim, Nataliya Guseva, Auston Kim, and Angela Stanford. With Kim’s breakthrough victory, Guseva’s tenacity, Auston Kim’s promising performance, and Stanford’s farewell round, the tournament provided fans with exciting competition and memorable moments. As the LPGA season progresses, these players’ performances at the championship will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on fans and fellow competitors alike, highlighting the depth of talent and dedication within the world of women’s professional golf.
