The 2024 Olympics held at Le Golf National had fans and players alike buzzing with excitement as the best golfers in the world competed for medals. The event was a success, with Jason Day expressing nervousness on the first tee and Tom Kim fighting for a medal on behalf of Korea. Even Rory McIlroy, who initially dismissed golf at the Olympics, admitted his shortsightedness and embraced the event. The success of golf at the Olympics has led to the announcement of more golf at future Olympic Games, including the introduction of a mixed doubles competition in 2028 at the famed Riviera Country Club.

The decision to include mixed doubles in the Olympic Golf competition has sparked much excitement among fans and players. The idea of pairing up top golfers like Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda has long been a topic of discussion within the golf community. The scheduling challenges of fitting in an additional week of competition into an already busy golf calendar have been acknowledged by the International Golf Federation. However, with the next Olympics scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, home to many pro golfers, the logistics of participation may be more feasible.

The prospect of mixed doubles competition at future Olympics, such as Australia in 2032, presents a new challenge for golfers who are used to individual stroke play tournaments. The idea of playing two tournaments back to back and potentially losing some players due to scheduling conflicts has been raised by Xander Schauffele. However, the emotional response of past medal winners suggests that the sacrifice will be worth it in the end. The introduction of mixed doubles offers a unique viewing experience for fans who are accustomed to traditional stroke play events.

The mixed doubles competition will follow the individual stroke play events for men and women at the Olympics. Qualification for the mixed doubles will be based on those already qualified for the singles competition, with each country limited to one team entry. The potential pairings for mixed doubles at the 2028 Olympics include top golfers like Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda, Rory McIlroy and Leona Maguire, and Jon Rahm and Carlota Ciganda. The inclusion of mixed doubles adds a new level of intrigue and excitement to the Olympic Golf competition.

Leading up to the mixed doubles competition, fans can speculate on potential pairings, such as siblings Min Woo and Minjee Lee teaming up or Viktor Hovland partnering with Celine Borge. The introduction of mixed doubles at the Olympics opens up new possibilities for golfers and fans alike, creating an exciting atmosphere for the sport. Overall, the expansion of golf at the Olympics to include mixed doubles promises a fresh and engaging viewing experience for fans, with top golfers competing for medals and national pride in a unique format.
