Overview of Major Golf Venues for 2026: What to Expect

As the holiday season concludes and winter settles in across much of the U.S., many sports enthusiasts turn their focus to the ongoing College Football Playoff and the approaching NFL playoffs. However, it won’t be long until the days grow warmer, the flowers bloom, and the anticipation for the golf season builds. With less than 100 days until the kickoff of the prestigious Masters Tournament, golf fans are gearing up for an exciting year ahead.

Augusta National Golf Club – 2026 Masters Tournament (April 9-12)

Undoubtedly one of the most iconic golf courses globally, Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, will host the Masters for the 90th time in 2026. This prestigious tournament is unique as it is the only men’s major championship that consistently remains at the same location.

Course Details:

  • Opened: 1932
  • Designed by: Alister MacKenzie and Bobby Jones
  • Ranking: No. 3 among Golfweek’s Top 200 Classic Courses in the U.S.
  • Length: 7,550 yards (2025 Masters)

Augusta National has been the backdrop for numerous historic moments in golf. Recently, Rory McIlroy achieved the career Grand Slam here, defeating Justin Rose in a thrilling playoff. As we count down the days, the excitement is palpable—just 96 days until the first tee shot at the 2026 Masters.

Aronimink Golf Club – 2026 PGA Championship (May 14-17)

In a surprising turn of events, a men’s major will be played at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, for the first time in over 60 years.

Course Details:

  • Opened: 1928
  • Designed by: Donald Ross
  • Length: 7,190 yards
  • Ranking: No. 65 among Golfweek’s Top 200 Classic Courses in the U.S.

The last men’s major at Aronimink was the 1962 PGA Championship, where Gary Player completed the third leg of his career Grand Slam. Aronimink has hosted several significant tournaments since, including the recent 2020 KPMG Women’s PGA. Notably, Keegan Bradley triumphed in the 2018 BMW Championship, showcasing the course’s competitive spirit.

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club – 2026 U.S. Open (June 18-21)

The USGA returns to its historical roots in 2026 by selecting Shinnecock Hills Golf Club to host the U.S. Open for the sixth time.

Course Details:

  • Opened: 1891
  • Length: 7,440 yards (par 70)
  • Ranking: No. 1 among Golfweek’s Best Private Courses in New York

Shinnecock is recognized for its challenging layout and history of controversy during U.S. Opens, notably in 2004 and 2018, when conditions led players to criticize the course as "unplayable." Brooks Koepka famously won the 2018 edition, underlining the course’s reputation as a tough test.

Royal Birkdale Golf Club – 2026 Open Championship (July 16-19)

Lastly, the Open Championship will conclude the major golf season at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England, marking its 11th time as the host.

Course Details:

  • Opened: 1889
  • Length: Just over 7,100 yards (par 70)

Royal Birkdale’s illustrious history includes memorable moments and legendary champions, such as Arnold Palmer and Jordan Spieth. Originally designed by J.H. Taylor, the course has undergone various renovations while maintaining its classic feel.

As we look forward to 2026, golf fans are eager to witness the remarkable settings that have shaped the sport’s history, with each venue bringing its unique character and challenges to the season’s major championships.
