Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and one of the key figures involved in the resort’s success is Marie Simonds. Simonds, who now serves as the executive director at the Bandon Dunes Charitable Foundation, is not only instrumental in helping the Keiser family support the local community and environmental initiatives but is also an accomplished amateur golfer at the resort. In a recent interview with Golfweek, Simonds shared her journey to Bandon Dunes, her role at the foundation, and the impact of the resort’s charitable giving over the years.

Marie Simonds and her husband, Jeff, were drawn to Bandon Dunes in 2004 while looking for a change from their life in Boise. They fell in love with the area and the golf courses, which led them to make Bandon their home. Simonds highlights the beauty and uniqueness of the golf experience at Bandon Dunes, emphasizing the ever-changing nature of the courses and the fun they offer to players of all levels.

As the executive director of the Bandon Dunes Charitable Foundation, Simonds oversees the charitable giving efforts of the Keiser family and the resort. Since 2012, the net proceeds from the Bandon Preserve par-3 course have been dedicated to community giving, raising over $8 million to support local initiatives. With the upcoming opening of Shorty’s, a new 19-hole par-3 course, the foundation’s impact is set to double, allowing for even more support for conservation, economic development, and community projects in the area.

The focus of the charitable giving at Bandon Dunes is on projects that benefit local conservation and ecology, support the economy, and strengthen the community. By working closely with the Keiser family, Simonds and her team strive to leverage their funds to make a meaningful impact on the local community. The recipients of the foundation’s support are appreciative of the help they receive, recognizing the difference it makes in their lives and the community as a whole.

As Bandon Dunes marks its 25th year, the resort and the charitable foundation are reflecting on the impact they have made over the years. With the addition of Shorty’s and the continued generosity of the Keiser family, there is an opportunity to consolidate their efforts and further enhance their contributions to the community. By partnering with other organizations and leveraging additional funds, the foundation aims to maximize its impact and address the needs of the local communities in a comprehensive manner.

In conclusion, Marie Simonds plays a vital role in the success of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and the charitable efforts of the Keiser family. Through her work at the Bandon Dunes Charitable Foundation, she has helped raise significant funds to support local conservation, economic development, and community projects. As the resort celebrates its 25th anniversary, the future looks promising with new initiatives like Shorty’s and a continued commitment to giving back to the community. Bandon Dunes remains a beacon of golfing excellence and community support, thanks in part to the dedication and leadership of individuals like Marie Simonds.
