The Golf Digest Hot List is a prestigious list compiled by the Golf Digest editorial team, but the voting process is driven by the input of two unpaid groups – a team of scientists and a panel of 32 golfers. These groups provide insights into the performance, innovation, look, sound, and feel of golf clubs, which are the three criteria used to evaluate the clubs on the Hot List.
The judges assess the utility of each golf club based on interviews with player panelists and their evaluations of clubs within a category. Using Rapsodo MLM2Pro launch monitors, over 24,000 shots were recorded to determine the performance of each club. Fitters work with players to ensure they are evaluating clubs that are suited to their individual specifications.
The Innovation criterion evaluates how a particular technology advances the category, the extent to which fitting for the majority of golfers is executed, and how the technology is communicated to the public and editors. Clubs that push the boundaries of what is possible in their category receive high grades in Innovation.
The Look/Sound/Feel criterion assesses the visual, auditory, and tactile experience of using a club. The judges evaluate how well a club aligns with their understanding of what a golf club should be, with higher grades given to clubs that resonate with this ideal. All judging is done on a 100-point scale for each criterion under each club category.
Products that score between 93 and 100 points are considered exceptional, while those scoring between 88 and 92.99 points are also recognized for their excellence. The Hot List provides valuable insights for golfers looking to upgrade their equipment, offering a comprehensive assessment of the best clubs on the market based on performance, innovation, and overall experience. Golfers can rely on the Hot List to make informed decisions about which clubs will enhance their game and provide the best value for their investment.
