The final round of the 2024 BMW PGA Championship delivered an exciting finish, with Rory McIlroy, Billy Horschel, and Thriston Lawrence battling it out in a playoff. McIlroy’s 47-foot eagle on No. 17 tied the lead with Lawrence at 20 under, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. However, McIlroy couldn’t secure the win in regulation, leading to a playoff between the three players.

In the playoff, McIlroy and Horschel both birdied the first hole, while Lawrence carded a bogey, narrowing the field to two players. The tension was high as McIlroy and Horschel went head-to-head, with both players having eagle opportunities on the second playoff hole. Ultimately, Horschel emerged victorious, sinking a 20-foot eagle putt to claim his second BMW PGA Championship title.

Horschel expressed his excitement and thrill at the way he played, acknowledging the battle he faced on the course. Despite a few setbacks during the round, including a bogey on No. 15, Horschel trusted his game and ultimately secured the victory. He credited his caddie for making crucial decisions during the round and emphasized the importance of luck in his win.

The victory was bittersweet for McIlroy, who has faced a string of disappointing finishes this season. Reflecting on his performance, McIlroy admitted to having awkward yardage on a crucial shot and lamented his missed opportunity to secure the win. Horschel acknowledged McIlroy as a friend and talented golfer, expressing empathy for him while celebrating his own victory.

Overall, the 2024 BMW PGA Championship provided fans with a thrilling finish and showcased the talent and resilience of the competing golfers. The playoff between McIlroy, Horschel, and Lawrence kept viewers on the edge of their seats, culminating in a memorable victory for Horschel. As the golf season continues, the competition and excitement are sure to ramp up, providing fans with more memorable moments and thrilling finishes.
