Fire Breaks Out at West Essex Golf Club’s Clubhouse Near London
On a troubling Monday morning, flames engulfed the clubhouse at West Essex Golf Club, located just outside of London. Fortunately, local fire officials have confirmed that all staff members are safe and accounted for, with no reported injuries. This incident marks an unfortunate start to the New Year for the club community.
Emergency services have advised the public to avoid the area as firefighting crews continue to battle the blaze.
The West Essex Golf Club clubhouse, established in 1989, was opened by the esteemed Sir Michael Bonallak OBE. Known as Britain’s most-decorated amateur golfer, Bonallak also held prominent roles as Captain and Secretary of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews until his passing in September 2023.
The golf course itself boasts a rich history, having been founded in 1900 and designed by the renowned architect James Braid. Its elevated position offers golfers stunning vistas of the Epping Forest and the London skyline.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by historic golf clubs and the importance of community support during such emergencies.
