Club Pro Guy and architect Hank Jones unveil their ambitious vision for Three Jack National: A top-tier semi-private golf course

Club Pro Guy (CPG) is a former competitive golfer turned golf course developer with an unconventional background. After a lackluster playing career on the Mexican Mini-Tour, CPG returned to Kansas City where he found success as a club professional and swing instructor. Now, he is embarking on his most ambitious venture yet: developing a new golf course called Three Jack National with troubled golf course architect Hank Jones.

The project, which was announced in 2020, has faced delays due to a variety of factors including the COVID-19 pandemic, financial missteps, and legal issues. In an interview with Golf Digest, CPG and Hank Jones provide insight into the progress of the course and their vision for it. Located on a foreclosed property in Kansas City, Three Jack National is being designed as a semi-private club with unique features that reflect the property’s history.

One of the most notable aspects of the course design is its proximity to busy Interstate 635, which presents challenges and opportunities for an exciting golfing experience. Hank Jones, known for his focus on creating difficult courses, sees the highway as a strategic element that adds uncertainty and excitement to the game. The layout of the course includes features like double greens, two-way fairways, and criss-crossing holes to maximize the use of limited space.

Concrete surfaces, repurposed from the demolished shopping mall on the property, are integrated into the design to add a level of strategy to shotmaking. Hank Jones believes that the use of cart paths and concrete near the green surrounds will challenge players to make decisions that can lead to both rewards and penalties on their shots. Despite concerns about player safety and space constraints, Hank remains committed to creating a challenging and unique golf experience at Three Jack National.

However, the project has faced setbacks due to Hank Jones’ struggles with substance abuse and legal issues. CPG acknowledges that these issues have contributed to delays in construction and has expressed concerns about the future of the course. Despite challenges, CPG remains focused on completing the project and envisions Three Jack National as a venue for hosting elite golf tournaments. While amenities like a pool and spa may be outsourced, the club’s primary focus will be on providing a high-quality golfing experience for its members.

Overall, Three Jack National represents an ambitious project that combines CPG’s unconventional approach to golf course development with Hank Jones’ unique design philosophy. While the course faces challenges and delays, the vision for creating a world-class golf destination remains at the forefront of their efforts. With a focus on creating a challenging and memorable golfing experience, Three Jack National has the potential to become a destination for elite players and enthusiasts alike.
