Determining the Tees for the PNC Championship

The PNC Championship week is set to be an exciting event as 20 pairings head to Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando for a week of fun and competitive action. Amongst the names present will be Tiger Woods and Nelly Korda, with various degrees of ages and abilities amongst the 40 competitors. One question that arises is how organizers assign the tee markers to these competitors.

There are expected to be four tee boxes in play at the PNC Championship: Gold, White, Red, and Blue. Each player is assigned one of these colors depending on their age. The Gold tees are the back tees, measuring around 7,100 yards, and are used by male pros under the age of 52 and family members 16 and up. The White tees, measuring around 6,600 yards, are the most popular in the event and are for professionals and family members aged 53-63, as well as LPGA members and family members aged 14-15.

Moving down the teeing system, the Red tees measure 6,000 yards and are designated for professionals aged 64-72 and juniors aged 12-13, while the Blue tees, slightly shorter than the Reds, are for juniors aged 11 and under, as well as professionals aged 73 and over. Last year, Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason, claimed the trophy with a record-tying fifth PNC Championship victory, carding a 13-under-par final round of 59.

As for Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie Woods, it has not been officially confirmed which tee he will play from, but last year he played off the White tees. Tiger mentioned that Charlie was hitting his drives further than him, with tee shots of around 355 yards. Due to his distance off the tee, it is likely that 15-year-old Charlie will be playing from either the White or Gold tees at this year’s event.

The PNC Championship is a unique event that brings together professionals, family members, and juniors of various ages and abilities to compete in a fun and competitive atmosphere. With players assigned tee markers based on age, we can expect to see a mix of skills and strategies on display throughout the tournament. As the event kicks off at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, fans can look forward to an exciting week of golf action and memorable moments on the course.
