Golf course designer Jay Blasi achieved a remarkable feat by scoring a hole-in-one on a par-4 hole at Mammoth Dunes at Sand Valley Resort in Wisconsin. The hole, which measures 325 yards from the tips, was playing 272 yards on a direct line to the flag when Blasi hit his shot with a driver. The video of the hole-in-one captured the surprise and excitement of the moment, with Blasi describing the feeling as one of “shock and awe” for himself and pure bliss for his group of Golfweek’s Best raters.

The downhill par-4 14th at Mammoth Dunes features a curving fairway with multiple centerline bunkers and a feeder slope from the right that allows players to feed the ball onto the green. While not a particularly long hole, the challenge lies in avoiding the sand traps to give oneself a chance at scoring well. Blasi’s hole-in-one on this hole adds to the allure of Mammoth Dunes, which is ranked No. 3 among all public-access layouts in Wisconsin and No. 36 on Golfweek’s Best ranking of all modern courses in the U.S.

Despite achieving this rare accomplishment on a par-4, Blasi is no stranger to holes-in-one, having previously made four aces on par 3s at various courses. His past hole-in-one locations include The Patriot in Oklahoma, Stanford Golf Course in California, Pasatiempo in California, and Omni PGA Frisco’s short course called the Swing in Texas. With a 2.9 handicap index, Blasi’s latest feat adds to his impressive golf resume and showcases his skill on the course.

Blasi’s hole-in-one comes at a time when he had expressed dissatisfaction with the state of his game, particularly leading up to a Ryder Cup-style, Golfweek’s Best rater-based Scratch Cup in October. The unexpected success on the par-4 at Mammoth Dunes may have been a welcome confidence boost for Blasi as he prepares for future golfing challenges. This exciting moment also serves as a reminder of the unpredictable and thrilling nature of the game of golf, where one shot can make a lasting impact and create unforgettable memories.

The celebration following Blasi’s hole-in-one likely involved buying a round of drinks for his fellow Golfweek’s Best raters, who are known for their discerning tastes and appreciation for quality golf experiences. The joy and excitement of witnessing a rare achievement on the course are shared among golfers, further enhancing the camaraderie and sense of community that the sport fosters. Blasi’s hole-in-one serves as a reminder of the magic and excitement that can be found in the game of golf, inspiring others to continue pursuing their own golfing dreams and goals.

In conclusion, Jay Blasi’s hole-in-one on a par-4 at Mammoth Dunes at Sand Valley Resort in Wisconsin is a testament to his skill and precision on the golf course. The unique achievement adds to his list of past holes-in-one and showcases his ability to rise to the challenge in unexpected ways. The thrill of scoring a hole-in-one, especially on a par-4 hole, underscores the excitement and joy that golf can bring to players of all skill levels. Blasi’s hole-in-one will be remembered as a remarkable moment in golfing history, inspiring others to strive for greatness and embrace the magic of the game.
