Golfweek’s Best: Ranking the Top 15 Golf Courses in Scotland

Scotland is renowned as the birthplace of golf, and it boasts some of the best golf courses in the world. Golfweek’s Best course-ranking program evaluates courses based on 10 criteria and produces an overall rating for each course. The top 15 courses in Scotland, as judged by hundreds of raters, are listed below.

Royal Dornoch Golf Club takes the top spot on the list with an average rating of 8.51. Designed by Old Tom Morris, the course opened in 1877 and is ranked among the top courses outside the U.S. Carnoustie’s Championship Course comes in at number four with an average rating of 8.05. Ardfin, located in Scotland, ranks seventh with an average rating of 7.76.

Cruden Bay, designed by Old Tom Morris, Archie Simpson, Tom Simpson, and Herbert Fowler, takes the tenth spot with an average rating of 7.69. Loch Lomond, designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf, comes in at number 11 with an average rating of 7.67. Cabot Highlands, also known as Castle Stuart, ranks twelfth with an average rating of 7.66.

Royal Troon’s Old Course rounds out the list at number 15 with an average rating of 7.57. Each of these courses offers a unique and challenging golfing experience for players of all skill levels.
