Callaway’s new Opus wedges have been spotted on the PGA Tour, with the design being used by professionals like Jon Rahm, Yuka Saso, and Xander Schauffele for a while. The company is now officially launching the retail version of the Opus and Opus Platinum wedges, which are said to be the most tour-tested and tour-validated wedges in Callaway’s history.

The Opus wedges feature Spin Gen Face Technology, which combines more grooves on the face, an offset groove-in-groove design for increased spin, and a roughened face for additional spin and lower launch, especially in rough and wet conditions. Feedback from tour professionals has led to the inclusion of a higher toe peak, refined leading edge radius, and smooth hosel transition for what Callaway calls its best wedge shape ever. The wedges also come in a variety of grinds to cater to different player preferences.

In addition to the standard Opus wedge, Callaway is introducing the premium Opus Platinum wedges, which feature 17 grams of tungsten high in the topline for lower launch with more spin, and a proprietary blend of metals for optimal feel and performance. The Opus Platinum wedges have a unique design and construction using Metal Injection Molding for better precision and feel compared to traditional methods.

Callaway’s product managers and R&D managers explain the design mentality behind the Opus wedges, highlighting the input of tour players in shaping and refining the wedges to cater to their preferences. The different grind offerings, including the S, W, T, and C grinds, are designed to suit different playing styles and shot preferences around the green.

The Opus Platinum wedge design focuses on trajectory control using tungsten and Metal Injection Molding for a premium feel and performance. The wedges come in a range of finishes and stock shafts and grips, with pre-sale starting on 7/19 and retail availability on 7/26. The Opus wedge is priced at $179.99, while the Opus Platinum wedge is priced at $229.99, offering players a choice of premium wedges for their game.
