Discovering the Heathlander Golf Shoe: A Casual Review

When you’re out on the golf course, a stylish pair of shoes can be just as important as your swing. Recently, I got my hands (and feet) into a pair of Heathlander golf shoes, and let me tell you—everyone has loved them! Seriously, I’ve been asked about them more times than I can count during my rounds. They may not be a household name yet, but these shoes turn heads. If you’re keen to find out why, stick around!

The Passion Behind Heathlander

Heathlander was started by two golf enthusiasts, Teddy Lynn and Mark Himmelsbach. Teddy spent his early days playing on amazing courses in southern England, while Mark made the most out of Michigan’s hidden gems. Their backgrounds give this brand a unique vibe—it’s all about creating gear for golfers who appreciate the finer things about the game.

What Makes Heathlander Unique

What sets Heathlander apart is its mission. Teddy and Mark didn’t just want to make footwear; they aimed to create a brand for “proper golfers.” They want their products to embody the spirit of golf that they both cherish. Having the opportunity to connect with them through their shoes is like finding that hidden gem of a course that only the locals know about.

First Impressions Matter

Each time I put on these sleek shoes, I feel like a better golfer. I recently paired them with a stylish Heathlander wind sweater and a quilted vest, and I’m loving the entire aesthetic. Once I took them out for a spin, I knew I was onto something special. They come in various bright colors, and I opted for the Surrey/Pink version, which definitely stands out on the green!

Should You Try Them Out?

Where better to put these shoes to the test than my home course, Formby? Designed to handle a mix of dreamy links and heathland holes, I was excited to see how they would perform. Despite being a bit damp due to the season, I unzipped that handy shoe bag, slipped on the shoes, and hit the course. They even come with an extra pair of laces to switch things up, which I appreciated.

Durability and Design

As I teed off, I couldn’t help but notice how the pebbled leather held up. After a few rounds, I found that the shoes didn’t scuff easily, even when I ventured off the fairway. Heathlander kept things straightforward regarding technology. The shoes boast all-weather traction and comfort that’s hard to beat, thanks to a proprietary rubber outsole and a shock-absorbing PeBax® insole.

On the Course Performance

After three rounds of early autumn golf, I can confidently say they hold their own, even in wet and slippery conditions. Initially, they felt a bit stiff, but after a couple of rounds, they softened up nicely. Now, they’re super comfy and feel like a second skin. It’s amazing how a little breaking-in time goes a long way!

Grip and Stability

One standout feature is the grip. The shoes have a unique sole made up of three layers: a foam sockliner, an EVA midsole, and a rubber outsole with a 9mm tread pattern. So, no surprise that they’ve excelled in tacky conditions. Of course, I’m curious about their long-term durability, but the construction seems solid enough for plenty of rounds ahead.

Word of Caution

Some folks online have raised concerns that the rubber tread could damage tees or greens. However, even renowned golf course architect Rob Collins, a fan of Heathlander, disagrees and hasn’t seen any issues. Plus, the brand scored an award for “Best New Product” at the 2025 PGA Show, which is an incredible endorsement.

What’s the Final Verdict?

If I could tweak one thing, it would be the pink soles. While the overall design is sleek, I think I’d prefer them in a less eye-catching hue. However, many golfers love the fun pop of color! So, it really comes down to personal taste. What I can’t deny is the overall performance of these bad boys. I’m genuinely excited to see what Heathlander has in store for the future.

Wrapping It Up

In the world of golf shoes, the Heathlander Golf Shoe has carved out its niche. With a blend of performance, style, and comfort, they’ve become my go-to for teeing off. So, if you want a pair of golf shoes that are both functional and stylish, consider giving Heathlander a shot. Who knows? You might just find your new favorite footwear on the course!
