How Using a Bath Towel in This Simple Drill Can Improve Your Short Putting

Struggling with short putts is a common issue in golf, even for beginners who generally feel confident in their putting abilities. One of the main reasons for missing these short putts is excessive body movement during the stroke. To identify this issue, have a friend film your putting stroke and pay close attention to any movement in your lower body.

Any movement in the lower body can be detrimental to your putting performance, as it can affect your ability to keep the putter face square to your line of putt. This lack of stability in the lower body can be caused by anxiety or the desire to see immediate results. To rectify this problem, practice putting with a regular bath towel pinned under your arms and across your chest to control your stroke with your abdomen.

By keeping the lower body still during practice strokes using the towel, you can eliminate unnecessary movement and improve your putting consistency. Once you have mastered this technique, remove the towel and focus on recreating the same stroke without any excess body movement. Visualize making the putt and hearing the ball drop into the cup, emulating the feeling of winning a major tournament.

Consistent practice with this method can help you build muscle memory and improve your putting accuracy, especially on short putts where precision is key. By maintaining a stable lower body and focusing on a smooth stroke with a square putterface, you can increase your chances of sinking those crucial putts on the course. Remember to stay patient and dedicated to honing this skill, as putting is a fundamental aspect of golf that requires constant refinement.

Developing a reliable putting technique starts with identifying and addressing any flaws or weaknesses in your stroke. By utilizing tools like a mobile phone camera to analyze your movements and practicing drills with a towel to stabilize your lower body, you can make significant improvements in your putting performance. Incorporate these strategies into your practice routine to build confidence and consistency on the greens.

As you continue to refine your putting skills, remember to focus on the basics such as alignment, grip, and posture to ensure a solid foundation for your stroke. Experiment with different putting techniques and strategies to find what works best for your game, and don’t be afraid to seek guidance from a professional instructor if needed. With dedication and persistence, you can overcome the challenges of short putts and elevate your overall performance on the golf course. Stay positive and committed to improvement, and you will see progress in your putting game over time.
