The US Women’s Open is set to take place at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania for the 2024 edition. Established in 1900, the club initially had a nine-hole course at its Juliette Avenue location before moving to its current site on New Holland Pike. Renowned designer William Flynn revamped the course in 1920, adding nine more holes and making continuous improvements until his death over 20 years later. The club now sprawls over 400 acres and offers amenities such as tennis courts and a pool in addition to its golf facilities.
Despite its long history, Lancaster Country Club did not host a Major until 2015 when In Gee Chun won the US Women’s Open there, setting a tournament attendance record of over 135,000 spectators. Chun’s victory marked the beginning of a close relationship between her and the club, leading to the establishment of the In Gee Chun Lancaster Country Club Educational Foundation to support education for club members. The club has also hosted the Pennsylvania Open and served as a local qualifying venue for the 2008 US Women’s Open.
Since the 2015 US Women’s Open, further design work has been undertaken at Lancaster Country Club under Jim Nagle and Ron Forse to enhance the parkland course set over rolling terrain. Bunkers have been restored, trees uprooted, and the course lengthened for the upcoming tournament in 2024, promising firmer, faster greens and a challenging playing experience for participants. The club, while private, offers various membership packages for those interested in joining.
