In this article, we dive into the ClubTest Proving Ground at GOLF.com, where the latest golf equipment is put to the test by managing equipment editor Jonathan Wall. In this specific test, we look at the Titleist GT2 and GT3 drivers and compare them to the gamer driver in a head-to-head competition.

Several years ago, Tiger Woods shared some valuable advice with Wall about equipment testing, emphasizing the importance of testing when performing well rather than trying to find a band-aid solution for poor play. With this advice in mind, Wall embarked on testing the GT drivers at the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI).

During the testing session, Wall struggled with clubhead speed and centering the face of the driver. However, his fitting guru, Joey Saewitz, provided some guidance on improving efficiency to find the center more frequently. By focusing on smash factor, Wall was able to improve his ball speeds and consistency.

The introduction of the GT3 driver, featuring a speed-tuned design and adjustable CG track, helped Wall achieve perfectly efficient driver strikes. The new design, combined with a shorter shaft and additional loft, led to impressive ball speeds and spin rates across the face of the club.

One of the standout features of the GT3 driver was its ability to produce playable numbers on high-toe misses, negating snap-hooks and providing a more forgiving experience for the player. This game-changing feature allowed Wall to swing more freely without fear of the “big miss.”

Since the fitting at TPI, Wall has seen positive results during on-course testing, with improved fairways hit percentage and a more enjoyable golfing experience overall. The GT3 driver has provided consistency and forgiveness, ultimately leading to lower scores and a more enjoyable time on the course.

Overall, Wall emphasizes the importance of prioritizing ball speed retention on off-center hits and dispersion over pure distance. The GT3 driver has proven to be a viable option for his bag, offering a balance of performance and forgiveness that enhances his overall game.

In conclusion, the Titleist GT3 driver has made a significant impact on Wall’s game, providing consistency, forgiveness, and improved performance on the course. By focusing on efficiency and finding the center more frequently, players can enhance their driving experience and improve their overall game.
