Leading Candidate Emerges in CEO Search by PGA of America

The PGA of America is in the process of selecting a new CEO, and former president Roger Warren is the leading candidate for the position. Warren, who is currently the president of Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina, previously served as PGA of America president from 2005-2006 and is a member of the association’s Hall of Fame. Other finalists for the CEO position included Derek Sprague, another former PGA president who is now the general manager of TPC Sawgrass in Florida, and David Reasoner, the head golf professional at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey. The decision-making process for the new CEO was slowed down by discussions with another candidate who is no longer in consideration.

The PGA of America has been without a permanent CEO since Seth Waugh stepped down earlier this summer after a six-year stint. Kerry Haigh, the PGA of America’s chief championships officer, has been serving as the interim CEO in the meantime. The association is aiming to name Waugh’s replacement before the PGA’s annual meeting which is scheduled for November in Milwaukee. Warren, who is 74 years old, is expected to become one of the older CEOs of the PGA of America. Despite his age, Warren has a strong background in golf, having been a high school teacher and golf coach before entering the golf-course management business in Illinois.

Warren’s tenure at Kiawah Island Golf Resort has seen the Ocean Course hosting two PGA Championships, in 2012 and 2021, with another championship scheduled for 2031. While Warren has not yet signed a contract, it is expected that his role as the new CEO of the PGA of America will be finalized soon. The change in leadership comes at a crucial time for the organization as they navigate challenges presented by the changing landscape of the golf industry. Having a new CEO with experience and knowledge of the game will be essential in leading the PGA of America into the future.

Once the appointment of Warren as the new CEO is made official, he will be tasked with guiding the PGA of America through its various initiatives and programs aimed at promoting the game of golf. His background in golf management and experience in overseeing major championships like the PGA Championship will be instrumental in shaping the direction of the organization. The PGA of America is looking to continue its growth and support of golf at all levels, and having Warren at the helm will provide the leadership needed to achieve these goals. As the PGA of America prepares for its annual meeting, all eyes will be on the announcement of its new CEO and the vision for the future of the organization under Warren’s leadership.
