Joaquin Niemann, a rising star in the LIV Golf world, recently secured a big win at the 2024 PIF Saudi International. After losing the season-long title to Jon Rahm, Niemann was determined to bounce back and claim victory at the Asian Tour event. He faced fierce competition from fellow LIV pros Cameron Smith and Caleb Surrat, but ultimately triumphed in a playoff. The win brought Niemann valuable world-ranking points, propelling him up the ranks and ensuring his eligibility for major championships.

Despite not being a LIV event, the Saudi International is part of the International Series, a 10-tournament series sponsored by the Saudi PIF. This series was created to provide LIV players with opportunities to earn world ranking points and new players a chance to join LIV. LIV events typically do not award world ranking points, which has caused players to see a decline in their rankings. However, because the Asian Tour sanctions the International Series, competitors can earn world ranking points from these events.

Niemann, who has two PGA Tour victories under his belt, had previously struggled with his world ranking after joining LIV in 2022. He saw his ranking plummet from 15th to 87th, making it challenging for him to qualify for major championships. However, his recent win at the Saudi International is expected to catapult him into the top 75 in the world rankings. In addition to the world ranking points, Niemann’s victory also earned him $1 million and the season-long International Series crown.

Reflecting on his win, Niemann acknowledged that the loss to Rahm in the season-long chase had fueled his determination to succeed at the Saudi International. He expressed gratitude for the support and motivation that drove him to secure the victory. Niemann’s upcoming holiday season will be extra special as he plans to tie the knot on December 21st before celebrating Christmas and New Year’s with his family. The win at the Saudi International added a celebratory touch to his holiday festivities, marking the end of a successful year for the talented golfer.

Niemann’s resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges highlight his dedication to the sport and his ability to overcome setbacks. His victory at the Saudi International not only secured his position in the world rankings but also served as a reminder of his competitive spirit and unwavering drive to succeed. As he looks forward to a well-deserved break and upcoming wedding celebrations, Niemann’s win serves as a testament to his talent and determination in the world of LIV Golf.
