The PGA Tour announced updates to its fantasy golf game for the 2025 season, aiming to modernize and improve the experience for players. The new PGA Tour Fantasy incorporates a new “team captain” feature and an automatic swap feature to enhance gameplay. Additionally, the Tour revamped its website and app to allow for better integration with the fantasy game, including the introduction of a real-time scoreboard for fans to follow the action as it happens.

Winners of the Tour’s quarterly and season-long competitions will receive gift cards to the PGA Tour Superstore, with the Tour’s retail outfitter serving as the Fantasy game’s presenting sponsor. The updates to PGA Tour Fantasy Golf aim to bring an elevated experience to both new users and longtime fans, according to Scott Warfield, the Tour’s VP of gaming. The changes align more closely with the reimagined Tour schedule, starting with the Opening Drive in Hawaii.

The PGA Tour Fantasy league reflects the growing popularity of fantasy sports, with niche offerings like Guillotine leagues attracting a cult following in recent years. The success of these alternate formats has driven updates to fantasy leagues across the sports world, including the latest changes to the golf-related fantasy game. These updates come as the Tour undergoes structural changes, including the introduction of a new equity investor class, with the goal of making golf more entertaining and accessible to a wider audience.

The PGA Tour Fantasy Golf updates for 2025 include a new team captain feature that allows players to assign a captain each week for double points, adding more differentiation between lineups. The introduction of an automatic swap feature will replace rostered players who miss the cut at an event, a popular feature in other fantasy apps. Fans can now follow real-time scores on the Tour’s website and app, enhancing the overall fantasy experience and allowing for more immediate engagement with the game.

The partnership with PGA Tour Superstore as the presenting sponsor of the Fantasy game reinforces the Tour’s commitment to engaging fans and aligning with the reimagined Tour schedule. These updates reflect the Tour’s dedication to modernizing its entertainment offerings and staying ahead of the curve in the ever-evolving world of fantasy sports. With a small but loyal following among golf diehards, PGA Tour Fantasy Golf continues to evolve to provide a more engaging and immersive experience for players.
