Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland made a name for himself on the PGA Tour in 2019 after winning the U.S. Amateur, excelling at Oklahoma State, and being the low amateur in both the Masters and U.S. Open. Despite his accuracy off the tee and high-quality iron play, his putting was not up to par, finishing 115th in Strokes Gained: Putting in his rookie season on the tour.

However, in the current season, Hovland has significantly improved his putting game, now ranking 43rd in Strokes Gained: Putting. This improvement has led to six PGA Tour victories, including the 2023 FedEx Cup, as well as being a member of a winning European Ryder Cup team and earning nearly $30 million in prize money. A key factor in this success has been his Ping PDL Milled DS72 putter.

Ping has now made a replica of Hovland’s exact putter available to the public, with the limited-edition PLD Milled SE DS72 Hovland Edition mid-mallet putter. This putter is milled from 1018 carbon steel with a copper-toned patina finish, matching Hovland’s specs. It features a head weight of 360 grams, a single aiming line on the topline, 3 degrees of loft, and a 35-inch length, just like Hovland’s setup.

The PLD Milled SE DS72 Hovland Edition putter stands out from other milled putters with its smooth hitting area, providing a firm feel at impact. It is designed with a double-bend shaft for face-balanced performance, making it ideal for players with a straight-back-straight-through stroke. This premium putter is available at authorized Ping retailers for $485, offering golfers the chance to experience the same technology and design used by Hovland on the course.

In conclusion, Viktor Hovland’s rise to success on the PGA Tour can be attributed in part to his improved putting performance, which has been enhanced by his Ping PDL Milled DS72 putter. Now available to the public in a limited-edition release, the PLD Milled SE DS72 Hovland Edition putter offers golfers the opportunity to experience the same technology and design that has contributed to Hovland’s success. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro, investing in a quality putter like the Hovland Edition could make a significant difference in your game. Be sure to check it out at your local Ping retailer and elevate your putting game to the next level.
