The third week of the TGL is set to feature New York Golf Club taking on Atlanta Drive GC, following their debut match against The Bay Golf Club where they suffered a 9-2 defeat. This upcoming match on Tuesday, January 21 will be held at the custom-built SoFi Center in Florida with coverage on primetime TV. The format will consist of 15 holes played over a two-hour period, with alternating shot formats for the opening nine holes and singles for the remaining six.
In the inaugural TGL season, there will be a total of 15 regular season matches with each team playing the others in a round-robin system. The top four teams will move on to the playoffs where two semifinals matches will determine the finalists competing for the SoFi Cup on March 24 and 25. The third contest comes after Los Angeles Golf Club’s dominant 12-1 win over Jupiter Links, with New York aiming to make amends for their previous defeat without Xander Schauffele in the line-up.
New York’s line-up for the match against Atlanta Drive will include Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young making his TGL debut, as they face off against a strong roster featuring Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, and Billy Horschel. Despite the absence of Schauffele, New York still has a talented line-up with a combined eight PGA Tour wins. However, with Atlanta Drive’s experienced players and confidence, they are likely to start as favorites in the match.
The match will begin with Young and Thomas teeing off at the 481-yard par-4 hole ‘Temple’, followed by a series of par-5s, par-3s, and par-4s until the singles portion starting with the par-5 ‘Quick Draw’. The action is scheduled to start at 7pm ET on Tuesday and will be broadcast live on ESPN and ESPN+ in the United States and Sky Sports Golf in the UK. With betting odds yet to be confirmed, Atlanta Drive GC is expected to be the favorite given New York’s recent defeat.
New York initially started the season as third favorites for the title but has since drifted to fifth in the betting following their loss to The Bay. Atlanta Drive GC is currently priced at +450 on Draft Kings, trailing behind The Bay, Los Angeles, and Boston Common. With the absence of Schauffele, New York will need strong performances from Fitzpatrick, Fowler, and Young to compete against Atlanta Drive’s experienced and talented line-up. The match is set to be an exciting competition in the TGL season, with both teams vying for a crucial victory to advance in the playoffs and compete for the coveted SoFi Cup.
