Alejandro Tosti gave his side of the story regarding the slow-play controversy with Min Woo Lee at the 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open. The incident occurred on the 8th hole, where Lee took 12 minutes to take a drop after hitting his tee shot into a bush. Tosti was seen talking to an official about the delay, and NBC on-course announcer Jim “Bones” Mackay suggested that Tosti had been disrespectful to his playing partner, Ryan Fox, earlier in the round. As the round progressed, Tosti’s pace of play became the focus, with Mackay noting that Tosti was playing at his own pace and holding up play for Lee, who was leading the tournament.

Following the tournament, Tosti took to Twitter to defend himself against the criticism he faced during the final round. He responded to Mackay’s comments by explaining that he had to use the restroom and prepare a drink, which led to him falling behind. While Tosti’s initial reaction included profanity, he later removed the tweet and rephrased his defense. This was not the first time Tosti found himself embroiled in controversy in Houston, as he had a disagreement with Tony Finau at the previous year’s event over who was away on the green.

Despite the incident, Tosti is not considered one of the slower players on the PGA Tour. The unfortunate delay caused by Lee’s decision to take a drop highlights the ongoing issue of slow-play in professional golf. The Tour has been making efforts to address the problem, with measures such as putting players on the clock and implementing penalties for persistent slow play. By enforcing these rules consistently, the Tour can ensure a smoother pace of play and prevent situations like the one that occurred between Tosti and Lee.

It is essential for players to maintain a reasonable pace during tournament play to ensure a fair and efficient competition. While disagreements and misunderstandings may arise, it is crucial for players to communicate effectively and adhere to the rules to avoid unnecessary delays. Tosti’s experience serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the integrity of the game and respecting fellow competitors on the course. By addressing slow-play issues promptly and decisively, the PGA Tour can promote a more enjoyable and competitive environment for players and fans alike.
