Looking to play the best golf courses in Wisconsin? Welcome to our annual Golfweek’s Best ranking of public-access and private courses in the state. The rankings are based on evaluations from a nationwide network of raters who evaluate courses on a variety of criteria and provide an overall rating for each course. These ratings are then averaged to produce the Golfweek’s Best course rankings.

The public-access courses in Wisconsin offer a variety of options for golfers, from standard daily green fees to access through resorts or affiliated hotels. Membership is not required to play at these courses. The rankings include both modern courses, built in 1960 or later, and classic courses, built before 1960. The courses are ranked on Golfweek’s Best lists for top 200 modern and classic courses in the U.S.

Some of the best public-access courses in Wisconsin include Kohler Whistling Straits, Sand Valley (Lido), Sand Valley (Mammoth Dunes), Sand Valley (Sand Valley), Lawsonia (Links), Erin Hills, Kohler Blackwolf Run (River), Kohler Whistling Straits (Irish), SentryWorld, Troy Burne, University Ridge, Kohler Blackwolf Run (Meadow Valleys), The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, Wilderness Resort (Wild Rock), and Club at Lac La Belle.

On the private side, the best courses in Wisconsin include Milwaukee CC, Blue Mound, Green Bay CC, Pine Hills, and Oneida. These courses offer a more exclusive experience for golfers looking for a higher level of service and exclusivity. Whether you prefer public-access or private courses, Wisconsin has a variety of options to suit every golfer’s preferences.

Milwaukee CC, located in Milwaukee, is ranked as the top private course in Wisconsin, followed by Blue Mound in Wauwatosa. Green Bay CC, Pine Hills, and Oneida round out the top five private courses in the state. These courses offer challenging and picturesque layouts that cater to golfers of all skill levels.

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer looking to play some of the best courses in the country or a casual player seeking a memorable round, Wisconsin has something to offer for everyone. From the stunning views at courses like Sand Valley to the historic layouts at places like Lawsonia, there is no shortage of options for golfers in the state. So grab your clubs, book a tee time, and get ready to experience the best that Wisconsin golf has to offer.
