Matt McCarty, a 26-year-old rookie, has emerged victorious in the 2024 Black Desert Championship, marking his first PGA Tour win. Along with the prestigious title, trophy, and 500 FedEx Cup points, McCarty will also pocket $1.35 million in prize money. The Black Desert Championship, the third event in the FedEx Cup Fall season, took place in Ivins, Utah, and featured a stunning course with black lava formations and red rock cliffs. This event is crucial for players as only the top 61 through 125 will earn fully exempt status for next year’s PGA Tour season.

Having previously dominated the Korn Ferry Tour with three wins, McCarty’s performance on the PGA Tour has been equally impressive. In just his third start on the Tour, McCarty displayed the composure and skill of a seasoned veteran, finishing with an outstanding 23-under-par score. Despite facing stiff competition from players like Lucas Glover and Matti Schmid, who posted low scores in the final round, McCarty remained focused and produced exceptional shots throughout the tournament.

Kevin Streelman, a seasoned player with over 300 cuts on Tour, was also in contention for the title but faltered with a double bogey on the back nine. Ultimately, Streelman finished tied for third place with a score of 19-under par. Looking ahead, the Tour moves to the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas, where young sensation Tom Kim aims to achieve a rare three-peat victory. Only a select few players, including Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker, have managed to win the same PGA Tour event three times in a row.

When it comes to McCarty’s equipment, his winning bag included a Ping G430 LST driver, Ping G410 3 wood, Ping G430 Max 5 wood, Ping Blueprint S irons, Ping Glide Forged Pro wedges, Ping PLD Tyne 4 putter, and TaylorMade TP5 ball. McCarty’s choice of equipment played a crucial role in his success at the Black Desert Championship, showcasing his trust in top-quality gear to deliver peak performance on the course.

Overall, McCarty’s triumph at the 2024 Black Desert Championship not only solidifies his position as a rising star in professional golf but also highlights the intense competition and high stakes that characterize the PGA Tour. As he continues to make his mark on the Tour, fans and fellow players alike will be eager to see how he builds on this success in future events. With his talent, determination, and winning mentality, McCarty has the potential to reach new heights and become a force to be reckoned with in the world of professional golf.
