GOLF recently released its latest ranking of the Top 100 Courses in the U.S. (2024-25), a list that includes 11 newcomers. Some of them you might know. Others you might not. In this article, we will introduce you to these rookie Top 100 gems, starting with Medinah Country Club in Illinois, which is ranked #3 among the newcomers and #74 overall. Medinah is a private course that was originally designed by Tom Bendelow in 1928 and underwent a restoration by Ogilvy, Cocking & Mead in 2024.

Medinah Country Club is one of the most recognizable courses in American golf and has returned to the Top 100 ranking after an eight-year absence. The restoration by Ogilvy, Cocking & Mead focused on removing poorly positioned trees and reverting to Bendelow’s bold bunkering, showcasing the course’s Golden Age roots. The result is a striking and spacious course with great holes throughout. The use of a split rail fence at holes 5-7 adds strategic tension, while the new holes created by OCM, including the Cape 16th, provide a thrilling finish.

According to GOLF’s raters, Medinah has greatly benefited from the renovation, delivering a championship venue that is enjoyable for member-guest experiences while still requiring excellent golf to score. The redesigned routing has a better flow, and the greens are interesting without being excessively severe. The course now exudes charm and variety, with appropriately scaled bunkers and strategic elements that make it a Midwest anchor venue. Overall, the renovation has transformed Medinah from a difficult but disjointed course into a more aesthetically pleasing and strategic layout.

In addition to Medinah, there are 10 other newcomers on GOLF’s Top 100 Courses in the U.S. ranking for 2024-25. These courses offer a variety of challenges, designs, and locations, showcasing the diversity of golf in America. From classic designs to modern layouts, each newcomer brings something unique to the Top 100 list. Golf enthusiasts can explore these courses and perhaps discover a new favorite destination to tee it up.

GOLF’s Top 100 Courses in the U.S. ranking is a highly-anticipated list that showcases the best of American golf. Each course is rigorously evaluated by a team of raters who consider factors such as design, conditioning, challenge, and overall enjoyment. The inclusion of 11 newcomers in the latest ranking highlights the dynamic nature of the golf industry and the continuous evolution of course design and architecture.

For golfers looking to discover new and exciting courses, the Top 100 list serves as a valuable resource. Whether you prefer classic, traditional layouts or modern, innovative designs, there is something for everyone on the list of America’s best courses. Exploring these courses and experiencing their unique challenges and beauty is a bucket-list opportunity for any golf enthusiast.

In conclusion, GOLF’s Top 100 Courses in the U.S. ranking for 2024-25 features 11 newcomers, including the iconic Medinah Country Club in Illinois. Each course on the list offers a distinctive golfing experience, from strategic layouts to picturesque settings. Whether you’re a scratch golfer or a weekend warrior, these courses provide a variety of challenges and opportunities to test your skills. Be sure to explore the newcomer spotlights and discover your next golfing destination in America’s top 100 courses.
