Review of the Ping G440 Max Fairway Wood

The Ping G440 Max fairway wood is the latest release from Ping, aiming to improve on the popular G430 fairway wood. In this review, we take a closer look at the performance and design of this new club. Tested on a launch monitor and out on the golf course, we analyzed its performance with the new Titleist Pro V1x golf balls. The club features a Carbonfly Wrap, giving it a modern aesthetic and improved looks over its predecessor.

While the looks of the club may divide opinions, with some improvements seen at address, the sole design may not be as progressive as expected. The blue colorway and design remind some of the original Ping G series, which may not be the most appealing to all golfers. However, the performance of the club is what ultimately matters. The G440 Max offers solid performance across the board, with high and consistent ball speeds but slightly underwhelming carry numbers compared to competitors.

Despite its lower trajectory, the G440 Max fairway wood may work well for golfers who struggle with launch and carry, especially with the option of a 4-wood (17°) loft. The deeper face may provide confidence when teeing off but may not necessarily promote a higher launch as intended. While the club offers solid performance benefits similar to the G430, there may not be significant improvements in any area. The Carbonfly Wrap has improved the look at address but some golfers may expect more for the price.

Overall, the Ping G440 Max fairway wood offers solid performance but may not be a significant upgrade from the G430. The club’s design may appeal to some golfers with its modern aesthetic and Carbonfly Wrap, but the sole design may not be as progressive as expected. While the G440 Max may work well for golfers who struggle with launch and carry, especially with the option of a 4-wood loft, it may not excel in all areas compared to competitors. Ultimately, the decision to invest in the G440 Max fairway wood will depend on individual preferences and performance needs.
