Review of the Srixon 2025 Z-Star XV Golf Ball

The Srixon Z-Star XV golf ball has become a favorite among tour players for its unique combination of competitive driver distance and high levels of short game spin. Now in its ninth generation, Srixon has refined the properties of the Z-Star XV to broaden its appeal even further. The latest iteration features a new biomass urethane cover, spin skin+ coating, and Fast Layer DG Core 2.0. These enhancements aim to boost ball speed for greater distance and improved iron spin.

To validate these claims, the Z-Star XV was tested on a Foresight Sports GCQuad launch monitor at Peterborough Milton golf club before being put in play over multiple rounds. One of the standout features of this ball is its firm feel, with a noticeable ‘click’ sound at impact. Despite this firmness, the Z-Star XV provides excellent spin on chip shots, allowing for aggressive play around the green. The ball’s reaction on the greens is consistent, with chip shots taking two hops before coming to a stop.

In addition to its performance around the green, the Z-Star XV also excels off the tee, offering impressive ball speed and a slightly higher flight than its competitors. The ball’s mid-to-low spin makes it equal to the Z-Star Diamond in terms of carry distance output. With a mid-iron in hand, the Z-Star XV flies far and high, providing excellent stopping power for approach shots. Control with wedges is also impressive, making it a versatile option for golfers looking for a ball that reacts and stops sharply.

When comparing the Z-Star XV to the Z-Star Diamond, it becomes a tough call for players. The Z-Star Diamond may offer added short game spin, but the Z-Star XV provides more total yardage. Ultimately, the choice between the two balls comes down to personal preference. While there may be some crossover in performance, the feel of the Z-Star XV sets it apart, with a firm, fast, and grippy sensation off the clubface. Overall, the Z-Star XV is a reliable option for players looking for a ball that delivers consistent performance across all aspects of the game.
