TRUE Linkswear Lux Player Golf Shoe: A Casual Review

Quick Summary

The TRUE Linkswear Lux Player golf shoe is a game-changer for golfers who appreciate the classic TRUE feel. These shoes are super comfy, lightweight, and offer impressive traction. Plus, they come with a solid two-year waterproof warranty, making them a smart choice for any golfer.

An Introduction to the Lux Player

When TRUE Linkswear jumped into the world of spiked golf shoes, they didn’t just dip a toe in; they dove right in! They launched two options at once. I recently checked out the TRUE Linkswear Lux Maven, a fancy option with a carbon fiber plate. Today, we’re focusing on the Lux Player, which has the same spiked sole but is a more wallet-friendly choice. I put both shoes to the test to find out how the Lux Player stacks up.

Style Points

Okay, let’s talk looks. While the Lux Player and Maven share similar styles, the difference comes in the upper material. The Maven flaunts Napa leather, while the Player uses something called “TRUEdura.” This gives the Player a more modern vibe, perfect for those who like to keep it fresh and athletic. The color options are stylish too—Storm Blue, Charge White (with lime accents), Pro Black, Glacier White, and the patriotic Patriot colorway. Minimal branding means these shoes easily fit into any outfit without stealing the spotlight.

Feeling Fantastic

Step into the Lux Player, and you’ll immediately notice that familiar TRUE comfort. The moment my heel hit the insole, I knew I was in for a treat. The TRUEdura upper hugs your foot like a sock—no tight spots or pinching here! The wide toe box means your feet can wiggle around comfortably. The cushioning is soft and flexible, allowing for natural movement without being overly plush.

One quick note: the Maven has the “TRUE Breezeway Heel Lock System,” which adds some extra padding around the heel for a more locked-in feel. The Lux Player doesn’t have this, but don’t worry; it still fits nice and snug without feeling loose.

Performance on the Course

Let’s dive into what really matters—performance. The Lux Player features the FlexBolt spiked outsole, and trust me, it’s a monster when it comes to traction. This sole isn’t just spiked; it’s one of the most aggressive molded soles on the market. If you’re slipping in these shoes, it’s probably not the shoe’s fault!

I tested both the Lux Player and Maven back-to-back, and the difference between the two is pretty noticeable. While the Maven’s carbon plate adds some rigidity, the Player bends and moves with your foot. If you’re more into traditional golfing vibes, the Player will likely suit your style better.

Freedom and Flexibility

Another thing to consider is stability. The Lux Maven offers a bit more lockdown—my foot felt securely locked in place, which is great for those hard swings. On the flip side, the Lux Player gives you more freedom of movement. You feel stable thanks to those spikes, but your foot has a little wiggle room. It’s a personal preference; some will love the enhanced mobility of the Player, while others might prefer the more anchored feel of the Maven.

Lightweight and Easy on the Feet

Let’s talk weight. The Lux Player is about 3 ounces lighter than the Maven, which might not sound like a lot, but if you’re walking the course, every little bit helps! It’s lighter than your average golf shoe but still feels sturdy enough for those who are used to more traditional styles. Both shoes have a comfortable 6mm heel drop—low enough to keep you grounded but not so low that you notice a big difference.

Staying Dry on the Course

Worried about wet conditions? Fear not! The Lux Player comes with a solid two-year waterproof warranty, so you can trust they’ll keep your feet dry even in the dampest grass. While the Maven comes with an even longer warranty, I found both pairs did a fantastic job of keeping my feet dry during several rounds—yes, even under a kitchen sink!

Final Verdict

In a nutshell, the TRUE Linkswear Lux Player is a fantastic choice for golfers who want the classic TRUE feel in a spiked shoe. You’ll get top-notch traction without sacrificing comfort. While the Maven is a great option for those looking for something more traditional, the Lux Player is going to be my go-to shoe for all my rounds this season.
