Review of the Yonex EZone GT Driver

Yonex has been a prominent brand in the golf industry, known for its innovative and high-tech components that cater to the premium end of the market. The new Yonex EZone GT driver has been making waves with its high price point of £529, aligning it with the best drivers in the market. The EZone GT driver is packed with technology, including StrikeSpeed carbon and a new head structure with a ‘wall’ for weight distribution and stability. The vertical laser milled face is designed to reduce spin axis tilt and offer better dispersion downrange.

Visually, the EZone GT driver impresses with its matt carbon crown and sleek design. The single dot on the crown helps with alignment, making it easy to set up for shots. The driver has a premium look and feel, with a well-branded headcover that adds to the overall aesthetic. Despite the driver bearing some resemblance to older models from other companies, the overall design and finish of the EZone GT driver stand out in 2024.

During testing at Saunton Golf Club, using a launch monitor and TaylorMade TP5 golf balls, the EZone GT driver showcased solid performance. The feel and impact were well-balanced, providing a sense of power without being too loud or harsh. Mishits were forgiving, and although the data was not spectacular, it was still satisfactory. However, to compete with other industry leaders like TaylorMade, Callaway, and Ping at similar price points, the performance of the EZone GT driver would need to match or surpass the competition.

One aspect of the EZone GT driver that stood out was its vertical grooves designed to improve the spin axis. While the concept was intriguing, the reviewer did not notice a significant difference in dispersion compared to their regular gamer driver. The performance of the EZone GT driver was close to industry leaders, but with some adjustments, such as a more suitable shaft for the reviewer’s speed, it could potentially compete at a higher level. Overall, the EZone GT driver offers a great aesthetic, impressive feel, and reliable performance, making it a worthy contender in the premium driver market.
