Title: An In-Depth Look into the Versatile Titleist Vokey L Grind Wedge

Titleist Vokey wedges are known for offering golfers a wide range of sole options to suit any swing type, condition, or shot type. Many professionals use Vokey wedges on tour, and they are popular among amateur players as well. The latest addition to the Vokey lineup is the L Grind, a low bounce, 4-degree grind designed specifically for tight and firm lies. This article will provide an in-depth review of the L Grind wedge, exploring its design, performance, and versatility.

The L Grind features a low bounce design that allows the leading edge to get close to the ground while still offering trailing edge, heel, and toe relief. This sole design enables players to open the face of the wedge without lifting the leading edge off the turf, making it easier to hit higher lofted shots. The L Grind is only available in Vokey’s Raw finish, which will rust over time with use, giving the wedge a unique aesthetic appeal.

Upon initial inspection, the L Grind looks similar to the M Grind in terms of sole shape and design. The author of the review, based in Metro Detroit, was initially skeptical of using a wedge with only 4 degrees of bounce due to the softer conditions in the area. However, after taking the wedge out on the course, he was pleasantly surprised by its performance, particularly in deep rough and tight lies.

On the course, the 58.04L wedge performed exceptionally well, gliding through the deep rough and producing shots with high trajectory and spin. The author noted that the L Grind was particularly effective out of the rough, allowing for clean contact and consistent ball flight. The wedge also excelled off the fairway, producing shallower divots than expected and offering great turf interaction on partial shots.

Spin is a key feature of Vokey wedges, and the L Grind did not disappoint in this regard. The wedge produced high and predictable spin rates, allowing players to control their shots effectively. The author found that playing the ball back in his stance and pressing the wedge forward produced low, high spin shots that checked up hard on the green. Additionally, the L Grind performed well out of the bunker, providing sufficient bounce and spin for shots around the green.

Overall, the Titleist Vokey L Grind wedge proved to be a versatile and reliable option for players of all skill levels. Despite its low 4-degree bounce, the wedge performed like a higher bounce sole, making it suitable for soft conditions and steep swing types. The author concluded that the L Grind is capable of handling a wide range of shots and situations on the course, making it a valuable addition to any golfer’s bag.
