Scottie Scheffler cleared of criminal charges

The criminal charges against professional golfer Scottie Scheffler relating to a traffic incident at the PGA Championship have been dropped. Jefferson County attorney Mike O’Connell stated that after reviewing the evidence, they could not move forward with the prosecution as the evidence did not support criminal offenses. The charges against Scheffler have been dismissed with prejudice, indicating that they cannot be brought back in the future.

Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, accepted the decision and stated that they had no objection to the county’s motion to dismiss the charges. The matter can be expunged within 60 days, removing the incident from Scheffler’s record. Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg previously revealed that the arresting officer did not have his body camera activated during the arrest, although video footage from a police cruiser and a nearby pole did not conclusively show Scheffler’s alleged behavior.

Scheffler was arrested outside Valhalla Golf Club on May 17 and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals. Despite the allegations, Scheffler maintained that it was a misunderstanding and that he was following instructions from a different traffic officer. Romines disputed the incident and vowed to fight until Scheffler was completely exonerated.

Following his arrest, Scheffler returned to the PGA Championship and finished in a tie for eighth place. He has since continued to compete in golf tournaments and is expected to play at the Memorial Tournament in June. Despite the chaotic situation, Scheffler managed to bounce back and perform well in subsequent events. The U.S. Open at Pinehurst is also on his upcoming schedule.

Overall, the charges against Scottie Scheffler have been dropped, and he has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing in the traffic incident at the PGA Championship. The decision to dismiss the charges was based on a lack of evidence to support criminal offenses. Scheffler and his attorney have accepted the outcome and are moving forward from the incident. As a professional golfer, Scheffler is focused on his upcoming tournaments and continuing to excel in his career.
