If you find yourself struggling in the middle of a round of golf, you’re not alone. For many recreational players, a bad shot can quickly escalate into a series of bad holes, leading to a complete derailment of what was previously a good round. Top 100 Teacher Krista Dunton offers some helpful tips for getting back on track and resetting your mindset during a challenging round of golf.

Dunton suggests simplifying your swing by focusing on making smaller, punch shots to regain solid contact with the ball. By taking the time to eliminate any stored-up tension in your body, you can improve your rhythm and tempo, which are crucial for a successful swing. Remember that tension and overthinking can negatively impact your performance, so taking a few practice swings away from the ball can help you relax and refocus.

Positive thinking is another key element in overcoming a mid-round funk. Dunton recommends thinking about things you’re grateful for or simply going to your happy place mentally. By shifting your perspective and focusing on the positive aspects of your game, you can reduce stress and improve your overall performance on the course. Additionally, revisiting successful rounds and identifying what works well for you can help you recreate those moments of excellence when you’re struggling mid-round.

Keeping detailed notes about your game can also be beneficial in times of need. Dunton suggests writing down what works for you when you’re playing well, whether it’s a specific swing thought or a relaxed state of mind. By having these notes readily available on a bag tag or in a small notebook, you can quickly refer to them when you need a mental reset during a round. By taking the time to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses, you can make more informed decisions on the course to improve your game overall.

Incorporating these tips from Krista Dunton into your golf routine can help you navigate a mid-round funk and refocus your mindset for a successful finish. By simplifying your swing, eliminating tension, thinking positively, and revisiting past successes, you can overcome challenges on the course and improve your overall performance. Remember to stay calm, focused, and positive, and you’ll be able to reset your game and finish strong.
