The Cobra King TEC-X irons are set to be released on November 8th, and they are aimed at golfers with a handicap between 10 and 20 who are looking for more forgiveness, distance, and a softer feel. These game-improvement irons are slightly larger than the standard King TEC and offer greater stability with enhanced distance. The design of the King TEC-X irons reflects the changing times in golf equipment, moving away from the bulky, offset game-improvement irons of the past towards a more refined and elegant look that appeals to golfers of all skill levels.
The King TEC-X irons feature a cast 431 stainless steel body with a thin, forged 17-4 stainless steel face. The PWRShell H.O.T. design of the face is thicker in the center and thinner around the edges, enlarging the sweet spot and optimizing performance on mishits. The addition of a 70-gram tungsten weight in the 4-7 irons lowers the center of gravity (CG) location, encouraging a higher launch angle and better energy transfer. On the other hand, the 8-iron through gap wedge do not contain tungsten, leading to a higher CG location that is preferred for better distance control and trajectory in scoring clubs.
To enhance the sound and feel of the King TEC-X irons, Cobra has injected urethane microspheres inside each head to absorb excessive vibrations at impact. This foam material does not inhibit the face from flexing, ensuring that golfers can expect improved feel and sound without compromising speed and distance. The King TEC-X irons are designed to fly higher but produce less spin compared to the standard King TEC, providing more distance for golfers who need a game-improvement iron while catering to the preferences of more accomplished players who may want extra spin for shot shaping.
In addition to traditional, variable-length sets, Cobra is offering a King TEC-X One Length set, where each iron is the length of a typical 7-iron. To address potential distance gaps, the lofts in the 4-, 5-, and 6-irons are weakened to help golfers with lower swing speeds get the long irons in the air more easily. These clubs also feature a wider sole and increased offset to compensate for the reduced swing speed with a shorter shaft. Overall, the King TEC-X irons offer a blend of forgiveness, distance, and feel that cater to golfers looking to improve their game and enjoy a more refined golfing experience.
