Cameron McCormick, a renowned golf instructor and coach to PGA Tour player Jordan Spieth, recently shared a setup tip in a video that could potentially improve your golf swing. In the video, McCormick emphasizes the importance of turning your elbow so it faces your side during your stance, with the pit of your arm facing up towards the sky. This small adjustment can help improve your swing connection and lead to better quality strikes on the ball. McCormick demonstrated this tip in action, almost holing out a shot himself. This setup tip, while seemingly simple, can have a significant impact on your overall swing performance.

McCormick also highlighted three “swing death moves” that golfers should avoid if they want to improve their scores on the course. These moves, as he refers to them, can have dire consequences for your game if not addressed. The first death move involves getting your arms stuck behind your body, which disrupts the flow of your swing. McCormick demonstrated a fix for this, emphasizing the importance of keeping your arm out in front of your shoulder for better connection during the swing. The second death move involves staying in wrist extension too long during the downswing, which can lead to an open club face. McCormick provided a technique to close the club face and turn push slices into straight shots or draws.

The third death move identified by McCormick is an overactive, high-right shoulder coupled with early rib-cage rotation and left-side bend. This combination can result in a steep angle of attack and left club path, affecting your overall swing mechanics. McCormick offered a solution to this issue, focusing on proper hip movement and shoulder positioning to maintain a more efficient swing path. By addressing these key swing faults and implementing the suggested fixes, golfers can enhance their overall performance and avoid common pitfalls that can hinder their progress on the course.

As a GOLF Top 100 Teacher and longtime coach to Jordan Spieth, McCormick’s insights and tips carry weight within the golf instructional community. His emphasis on simple, yet effective adjustments in stance and swing mechanics can help golfers of all levels improve their game and achieve better results on the course. By understanding the importance of maintaining proper arm positioning and avoiding common swing faults, players can enhance their consistency, accuracy, and overall performance in their golf game. McCormick’s approach to coaching focuses on practical, actionable advice that can benefit players at any skill level.

In today’s competitive golf landscape, every aspect of the game matters, from setup to swing mechanics to mental approach. By incorporating the tips and insights shared by Cameron McCormick, golfers can enhance their understanding of key fundamentals and improve their overall performance on the course. Whether you are a beginner looking to refine your skills or an experienced player seeking to fine-tune your game, the guidance provided by McCormick can help you unlock your full potential as a golfer. Take the time to review and implement these valuable tips into your practice routine to see tangible improvements in your game.
