Tiger Woods is not only gearing up to compete in the U.S. Open next week at Pinehurst, but he also recently took a detour to Utah to work on his other job as a golf course architect. Woods, along with design consultant Beau Welling, visited Marcella Club near Park City, where his TGR Design firm is building an 18-hole layout set to open in 2025. This course will be Woods’ first mountain layout and is expected to stretch beyond 8,000 yards.
Woods has already designed three full-size courses that are open to the public, including Bluejack National in Texas, Payne’s Valley at Big Cedar in Missouri, and El Cardonal at Diamante in Mexico. He is also working on a course for baseball player Mike Trout in New Jersey, to be named Trout National. Woods expressed his excitement about Marcella Club, describing it as the perfect canvas with incredible amenities and views that he has ever seen on a golf course.
Marcella Club is located in the Marcella Jordanelle Ridge, part of a master-planned community partnership between Marcella at Deer Valley and Marcella Jordanelle Ridge. The private course plans to cap its membership at 500 and will offer amenities in three locations: Marcella at Deer Valley, Marcella Jordanelle Ridge, and Marcella on Main. The partnership behind the club includes Reef Capital Partners, Raintree Investment Corporation, and Cross Lake Partners.
During his recent visit to Marcella Club, Woods and his team previewed the layout of all 18 holes, finalizing seven holes and discussing the others. Despite a snowy winter, significant progress has been made on the championship course, with the walkthrough helping to fine-tune the layout and features for a challenging and enjoyable experience for all golfers. Plans for Marcella also include a second 18-hole course by another designer, a short course designed by Woods, and a ski-in-ski-out lodge at Deer Valley Resort.
The collaborative effort behind Marcella Club showcases a commitment to excellence and luxury, with a focus on providing an exceptional experience for members and guests. The club’s location in the scenic Marcella Jordanelle Ridge offers stunning views and a unique mountain setting for golf enthusiasts. By incorporating Woods’ design expertise and vision, Marcella Club is poised to become a premier destination for golf and leisure in Utah.
As Woods continues to expand his portfolio as a golf course architect, Marcella Club represents a significant project that highlights his ability to create world-class courses in diverse landscapes. The combination of Woods’ design skills, along with the strategic partners involved in the project, ensures that Marcella Club will offer a top-tier golfing experience for members and visitors alike. With construction progress underway and plans for additional amenities in the works, Marcella Club is shaping up to be a must-visit destination for golf aficionados.
