Golf course architects Trey Kemp and John Colligan are teaming up to restore the playing conditions at Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin, Texas. Originally designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert Von Hagge, the semi-private club opened in 1979 and offers stay-and-play packages. According to Kemp, while the course has been kept in great shape over the years, the greens have shrunk, the bunkers have lost their original shapes, and it’s time for many components to be updated.
To address these issues, Kemp and Colligan have enlisted Sanders Golf Course Construction to help rebuild the greens and bunkers, as well as focus on the course’s bridges, tree trimming, tees, and drainage. Colligan stated that the renovation will aim to enhance the aesthetics, playability, and maintenance elements of the course in order to take it back to its original grandeur. Both architects are honored to have the opportunity to restore such a significant piece of Texas golf history.
The renovation project at Crown Colony began on April 1 and is expected to be completed by October. Kemp and Colligan have previously worked together on projects such as Brackenridge Park Golf Course in San Antonio, Stevens Park Golf Course in Dallas, and Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington. Their expertise and experience in golf course design and renovation make them well-equipped to bring Crown Colony back to its former glory.
The renovation at Crown Colony will include expanding the greens to their original sizes, as well as rebuilding the bunkers to their original shapes. This will not only improve the aesthetics of the course but also enhance the playability and maintenance for members and guests. With a focus on restoring the course’s historic charm, Kemp and Colligan are dedicated to preserving the legacy of this Texas golf landmark.
In addition to the greens and bunkers, the renovation project will also address other elements of the course such as bridges, tree trimming, tees, and drainage. By taking a comprehensive approach to the restoration, Kemp and Colligan are ensuring that every aspect of the course is carefully considered and improved. The goal is to create a more enjoyable and visually appealing golfing experience for players of all skill levels.
As experienced golf course architects, Kemp and Colligan understand the importance of preserving the history and tradition of a course while also incorporating modern improvements and design techniques. Their collaboration on past projects has been successful in revitalizing and enhancing the golfing experience for players. With their track record of delivering high-quality results, members and guests can expect nothing less than excellence from the renovation at Crown Colony Country Club.
By working with Sanders Golf Course Construction, Kemp and Colligan are leveraging the expertise of a trusted partner in golf course construction and renovation. With a shared commitment to quality and attention to detail, the team is well-positioned to execute the renovation at Crown Colony with precision and skill.
