Kent State University is known for more than just its success in professional sports. In fact, this week at the Presidents Cup, three Kent State alums are representing their alma mater on the international stage. Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, and Taylor Pendrith, all hailing from Ontario, Canada, were on the Kent State golf team at the same time under the guidance of their coach, Herb Page, who is now retired and supporting them at the Presidents Cup. These three golfers have had successful careers starting from their time at Kent State and have continued to excel on the PGA Tour.

The Kent State golf program, led by Coach Page, has produced some notable talent over the years. Ben Curtis, another Golden Flash alum, won the 2003 Open Championship. Conners, Hughes, and Pendrith were part of the team that achieved a program-best fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships in 2012, a testament to their skills and dedication. Individually, they have also garnered accolades, with multiple wins and awards during their time at Kent State. Their success on the PGA Tour has solidified their status as premier golfers in the sport.

Hughes, Conners, and Pendrith have not only excelled in their golf careers but have also maintained a strong connection to their alma mater. They were inducted into the Kent State Hall of Fame together in 2021, recognizing their contributions to the program. Their bond goes beyond just golf, as they have remained close friends throughout their careers. This camaraderie has translated into success on the course, as seen in their recent victories at the Presidents Cup.

Representing Canada on the international stage, these Kent State alums have showcased their skills at various events, including the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and the Presidents Cup in 2022. While their previous appearances may not have yielded the desired results, they have persevered and continued to improve. At this year’s Presidents Cup, they have already secured their first team points, showcasing their ability to compete at the highest level.

The support and guidance provided by Coach Page during their time at Kent State have been instrumental in shaping these golfers into the players they are today. His mentorship extended beyond the golf course, influencing their personal growth and development as individuals. This holistic approach to coaching has been a key factor in their success, both professionally and personally.

The presence of three Kent State alums at the Presidents Cup is a testament to the university’s impact on the world of golf. Their success serves as inspiration for aspiring young golfers, demonstrating that talent and dedication can lead to great achievements. As they continue to compete at the highest level, Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, and Taylor Pendrith carry the legacy of Kent State with pride, showcasing the university’s commitment to excellence in golf and beyond.
