Bryson DeChambeau, the two-time major champion and once considered a golf “villain,” has big visions for the future of golf and his role in shaping it. He became a fan favorite last season after winning the U.S. Open and finishing second at the PGA Championship. DeChambeau has found a loyal fanbase on YouTube as he attempts to help grow the game of golf and make it more accessible. Beyond his YouTube platform, DeChambeau aims to make golf economically viable and accessible to more people.

DeChambeau shared his strategy to attract more people to golf through a three-step process that involves bringing people to the driving range, offering lessons, and eventually getting them on the golf course. He envisions creating a community center that is easily accessible and affordable, which requires navigating bureaucratic hurdles in the current system. In California, DeChambeau is working on a “mega-project” that involves acquiring land in his hometown of Modesto to build a multisport complex center, driving range, golf course, residential area, and community center.

The complex that DeChambeau is planning aims to initially cater to students at the Clovis Unified School District, where he attended school. Thanks to a reported $125 million contract from the LIV Golf league in 2022, DeChambeau has the financial resources to pursue his ambitious plans beyond tournament golf. He hopes that his YouTube platform, The Crushers, and the popularity of LIV Golf will grow to the point where they can establish academies and golf courses worldwide to attract more people to the game.

DeChambeau’s ultimate goal is to increase the population in California’s Central Valley, particularly in his hometown of Modesto, through his community development project. The project is a three-phase process that involves working with county, state, and city officials to obtain the necessary permits for the construction of the complex. DeChambeau believes that creating a community around a multisport complex center will not only benefit the local population but also attract more people to golf.

The opportunity provided by LIV Golf has given DeChambeau the platform and economic viability to pursue his “mega-project” and expand his reach beyond tournament golf. He hopes that the success of LIV Golf and The Crushers will enable them to build academies and golf courses worldwide, furthering the growth and accessibility of the game. While DeChambeau gears up for the upcoming season under the lights in Saudi Arabia, he remains focused on pushing his community development project forward and preparing for the major season ahead.
