Jhonattan Vegas and Max Greyserman made impressive performances at the 3M Open in Minnesota, with Vegas securing his fourth Tour victory and rookie Greyserman achieving his best finish as a professional. As a result, both players have entered the FedEx Cup top 70, positioning themselves for the upcoming playoffs that kick off in Memphis in two weeks. Before the playoffs begin, however, players have one final opportunity to earn their way into the postseason.
The competition for playoff spots is heating up as players aim to secure a position in the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis by landing in the top 70 of the FedEx Cup standings. Unlike previous years where 125 players made it to the playoffs, only 70 players will advance to the event this year. The top 50 players after the FedEx St. Jude Championship will qualify for the BMW Championship in Colorado, followed by the top 30 heading to Atlanta and East Lake for the Tour Championship. With the PGA Tour currently on a break for the Olympics, players are gearing up for the Wyndham Championship, the last event of the regular season and a final chance to make it into the playoffs.
Despite finishing T-46 at the 3M Open, Davis Riley narrowly missed out on a top 70 spot due to the rise of Greyserman and Vegas. Sitting just outside the cutoff, Riley would be the first man out if the playoffs began today. Victor Perez, who didn’t compete in the 3M Open, is three points ahead of Riley and is also aiming to secure his spot in the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Kurt Kitayama finished T-6 at the 3M Open and moved to 73rd in the standings, needing another strong performance in the upcoming events to make it to the postseason.
Nicolai Hojgaard, currently in 79th place, will need a standout finish to secure his playoff spot after a mixed season. Defending champion Lucas Glover is looking to move up from his 75th position and secure back-to-back wins at the Wyndham and FedEx St. Jude Championship to make the playoffs. Harry Hall, who recently won the ISCO Championship, needs a strong performance at the upcoming Wyndham Championship to climb from 82nd into the playoff field. K.H. Lee, a two-time Tour winner, is currently in 97th place and will likely need a top-two finish to secure his postseason spot.
Rickie Fowler, a six-time Tour winner, did not compete in the 3M Open and will need a standout performance at the Wyndham Championship to have a shot at making the playoffs. Keith Mitchell, who finished T-46 at the 3M Open, is currently in 78th place and will need a strong showing in the final event to secure his spot in the playoffs. With the race for playoff spots intensifying, players like Jhonattan Vegas, Emiliano Grillo, Seamus Power, Brendon Todd, and Victor Perez currently occupy the top 70 positions, while others like Davis Riley, Andrew Putnam, Kurt Kitayama, Luke List, and Lucas Glover are striving to make their way into the playoff field.
