Handheld GPS devices are gaining popularity among golfers, with offerings like the Blue Tees Ringer, SkyCaddie Pro 5X, and the new Bushnell Phantom 3 Slope. The Phantom 3 is the third generation handheld device from Bushnell, known for its rangefinders. The addition of a new touchscreen makes the device much easier to use than before, allowing for quick navigation between screens and enhanced functionality. The Greenview feature provides an accurate shape of the green, helping golfers assess their approach angle and place the pin for precise yardages.

The Phantom 3 has seen an improvement in graphics on screen, moving away from the rudimentary display of its predecessors to a more premium look. The device covers all bases when it comes to data, offering front, middle, and back yardages, as well as distances to hazards and a shot distance calculator. The slope adjusted distances can be turned on and off, making it suitable for competitive play. The Bushnell Bite magnet, which allows for easy attachment to a cart, is a handy feature for those who play cart golf.

For golfers who prefer to carry their GPS device, the Phantom 3 comes with a case and carabiner clip for easy attachment to a golf bag. The device includes auto course and hole recognition, auto score prompt, and auto course updates, making it user-friendly. The battery lasts for approximately 4 rounds of golf and can be recharged using a USB-C cable. Overall, the Phantom 3 is a significant improvement over its predecessors, offering enhanced functionality and ease of use.

The device is priced at $149 (£149.99), making it a cost-effective option for golfers seeking a reliable handheld GPS device. While it may not offer the full hole mapping capabilities of some devices, the Phantom 3’s ease of use and functionality make it a standout option in the handheld GPS market. Whether upgrading from the Phantom 2 or looking for a new GPS device, golfers are likely to benefit from the enhancements of the Phantom 3. Its seamless integration into gameplay and accurate yardages make it a valuable tool for golfers of all levels.
