Arkansas State head coach Mike Hagen and his team are coming off of a successful season as Sun Belt Conference champions and NCAA Regional participants. Their confidence is high as they started the new season by winning the Golfweek Fall Challenge in Pawleys Island, South Carolina with a 12-shot margin over Wright State. This victory has set a positive tone for the team and they are eager to continue their success in upcoming tournaments.

The team’s success at the Golfweek Fall Challenge can be attributed to a combination of good play and good memories. Three of the six team members had previous experience playing at the True Blue Golf Club, where the tournament took place. Despite the challenging layout of the course, the Red Wolves were able to stick to their game plan and secure a solid victory. Junior Patton Samuels from Austin Peay State also had an outstanding performance, winning the individual title at 15 under par.

Arkansas State’s strategic approach to the tournament, focusing on hitting certain spots on the course and avoiding costly mistakes, paid off as they led the field in birdies and avoided big numbers. The team’s roster includes a mix of experienced seniors and talented underclassmen, with three players placing in the top 6 individually. This combination of youth and experience has proven to be effective for the Red Wolves, as they aim to build on their success from last season.

Looking ahead, Hagen is optimistic about the team’s prospects for the rest of the season. With key players returning and new talent stepping up, he believes that the team is in a good position to continue their winning momentum. The experiences and lessons learned from previous tournaments, such as the Sun Belt title in 2019 and the National Golf Invitational in 2023, have helped the team grow and evolve into a competitive force in collegiate golf.

The team’s strong start to the season has instilled confidence in the players and coaching staff, showing that their hard work and dedication are paying off. With a focus on consistency and strategic play, Arkansas State is poised to make a strong impact in the upcoming tournaments and compete at the highest level. As they continue to build on their successes and fine-tune their game, the Red Wolves are setting themselves up for a successful and memorable season on the golf course.
