On the morning of May 17, Ted Scott, caddie to World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler, received the shocking news that Scheffler had been arrested outside of Valhalla Golf Club while on his way to his second-round tee time at the PGA Championship. Scott shared his perspective on the events in a recent episode of GOLF Subpar with co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz. Scheffler and Scott were staying together just a mile away from the PGA Championship venue, and Scheffler left before his caddie, Scott, was getting ready to leave when he received a strange text from a friend. Initially, Scott thought the apology was for missing the third round, but then he learned about Scheffler’s arrest.

There was a mix-up in communication, and Scott initially believed that Scheffler had been involved in a fatal accident. However, he quickly learned that Scheffler was not responsible for the incident that led to the vendor’s death. Despite the stressful situation, Scott made calls to Scheffler’s family and friends to figure out how he could help. There was concern that Scheffler might miss his tee time, but he was released by the Louisville Metro P.D. and made it to Valhalla on time for his second round, where he shot a remarkable 66.

Scheffler’s charges, which included misdemeanors and a felony for allegedly assaulting a police officer, were dropped 12 days later. Scott commended Scheffler for handling the situation with grace and not seeking legal action against the city. It was a testament to Scheffler’s character and integrity. Despite the adversity, Scheffler finished T8 in the tournament. The whole ordeal showcased Scheffler’s strong character and his ability to rise above challenging circumstances.

Scott also shared insights into his relationship with Scheffler, including their on-course bets. The episode provides a deeper look into the dynamics between a caddie and a professional golfer, highlighting the challenges and triumphs they face together. Scott’s experience during the PGA Championship incident sheds light on the unpredictability of professional sports and the importance of maintaining composure in challenging situations. Scheffler’s resilience and professionalism throughout the ordeal serve as an inspiration to aspiring golfers and professionals alike. The episode offers a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on the world of professional golf and the bond between caddie and golfer.
