The 2024 PGA Tour season saw Tiger Woods dominating off the course, as he finished first in the final year of the PGA Tour’s Player Impact Program. Despite playing in just five events and only making one cut at the 2024 Masters, Woods generated the most interest in the PGA Tour. He also almost won the PNC Championship alongside his son Charlie and launched his Sun Day Red clothing brand in 2024. Woods took home a $10 million prize for finishing atop the PIP rankings.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler finished in second place in the PIP rankings, winning $8 million. Scheffler had a phenomenal season, winning seven Tour events, an Olympic gold medal, and the Hero World Challenge in 2024. He started the season strong with wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship, and Masters. However, his chances at winning his second major were derailed when he was arrested prior to his Friday round at the PGA Championship. Scheffler punctuated his season with a win at the Tour Championship in August and was named the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year for the third consecutive season.

Rory McIlroy, who won the top PIP prize in 2023, finished in third place in the final PIP rankings for 2024. McIlroy took home $4.5 million for his efforts. The top 10 in the final PIP rankings also included Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Shane Lowry, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, and Wyndham Clark. The PIP pool was cut in half in 2024, with $50 million divided among the top 10 players. The Tour has now launched the Player Equity Program, which will divide $100 million among the top 20 players based on various criteria.

While Woods and Scheffler dominated the PIP rankings for 2024, there were other notable achievements throughout the season. Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Shane Lowry, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, and Wyndham Clark all finished in the top 10 of the PIP rankings, earning significant prizes for their performances. The PGA Tour has shifted its focus to the Player Equity Program, which aims to distribute funds based on various criteria to promote fairness and equality among players.

The 2024 PGA Tour season was filled with excitement and drama, with players like Woods, Scheffler, and McIlroy making headlines both on and off the course. The PIP rankings served to reward players who generated the most interest in the PGA Tour, highlighting their impact on the sport. With the launch of the Player Equity Program, the Tour is moving towards a more equitable distribution of funds among players, promoting fairness and diversity within the sport.

Overall, the 2024 PGA Tour season was a memorable one, with standout performances from top players like Woods, Scheffler, and McIlroy. The PIP rankings showcased the influence of these players on the sport and rewarded them accordingly. As the Tour transitions to the Player Equity Program, the focus shifts towards promoting equality and fairness among all players, further enhancing the competitiveness and excitement of professional golf. Fans can look forward to more thrilling seasons ahead as the sport continues to evolve and grow.
