Trump National Doral to Host Miami Championship: A New Era for PGA Tour Events

Trump National Doral is making a significant return to the PGA Tour in 2026, set to host a new $20 million Signature Event—the Miami Championship. Scheduled from April 30 to May 3, this event will take place on the famed Blue Monster layout, which has been a part of golfing lore for decades. This announcement marks a crucial transition for the prestigious golf course, especially after hosting LIV Golf Miami for four consecutive years.

The Miami Championship is a highly anticipated addition to the PGA Tour’s revamped schedule. The venue has been a host to PGA Tour events annually from 1962 until 2016, with the last tournament being the WGC Cadillac Championship, famously won by Adam Scott. Now, golf enthusiasts can look forward to the Blue Monster’s comeback in this exciting new chapter.

To accommodate this fresh tournament, notable scheduling changes are underway. The PGA Tour has announced that the Mexico Open will shift to the FedEx Cup Fall schedule. The Rocket Classic will be moved to late July, and the Corales Puntacana Championship will take place simultaneously with The Open Championship. These changes reflect the Tour’s adaptability and willingness to innovate, ensuring that fans see only the best events on the calendar.

The Miami Championship represents the ninth Signature Event in the PGA Tour lineup, joining eight elevated tournaments from 2025. While most of these events will remain in their previous slots, there are minor adjustments. This initiative aims to enhance competitive golf while increasing fan engagement. Signature Events are designed to attract the most talented players and provide thrilling competitions for spectators worldwide.

The 2026 campaign will kick off with The Sentry tournament in mid-January, followed closely by the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational in February. Additionally, the Arnold Palmer Invitational will maintain its traditional slot leading up to The Players Championship in March. These carefully orchestrated dates ensure that fans will enjoy a rich tapestry of golfing action throughout the season.

In a noteworthy scheduling twist, the Truist Championship will return to Quail Hollow right after the Miami Championship. This marks the second consecutive week that Signature Events will feature in the 2026 PGA Tour calendar. This back-to-back arrangement adds to the excitement and competitive spirit, as fans can expect intense play from top-ranked players.

Next year’s Signature Event slate also includes the Memorial Tournament, set to precede the US Open, continuing the tradition of premier golf at celebrated venues. The Travelers Championship will round out the Signature Event season immediately following the action at Shinnecock Hills. This strategic scheduling ensures that the best players compete in iconic locations popular among golf fans.

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp expressed excitement about the upcoming schedule, highlighting the positive momentum from the previous season. The PGA Tour has seen increased ratings and attendance, reflecting the undeniable connection between players’ stories, their performances, and fan engagement. This cycle of growth further fuels the Tour’s commitment to enhancing the game of golf while bringing fans closer to the action.

The PGA Tour’s commitment to legacy venues is paramount, with nine existing locations, including Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster, having hosted events for over 50 years. These venues create a historical context that enriches the experience for players and fans alike. Players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills at these time-honored courses, where each hole is steeped in history.

With this dramatic shakeup in the PGA Tour landscape, golf enthusiasts have much to anticipate. The Miami Championship, set against the backdrop of Miami’s vibrant culture, is poised to be a showstopper in the golfing calendar. As we approach 2026, fans can expect an exhilarating mix of competition, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments on the greens.
