L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i HS Putter Review: The Next Level of Putters

A Quick Overview

Okay, let’s cut to the chase. The L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i HS putter is turning heads, and for good reason. It’s got a more traditional vibe but still maintains that street cred with zero torque technology. If you loved the original OZ.1, you’re gonna want to check this one out!

Why L.A.B. Is on Fire

Let’s take a second to talk about L.A.B. Golf. They’ve had quite the year, kicking things off with the OZ.1 putter, which has had golfers raving about its performance. To top it off, this year they clinched a major win at the US Open with J.J. Spaun using one of their sticks. Now they’re stepping up the game even more with the OZ.1i HS—a putter that offers a fresh heel-shafted look while preserving L.A.B.’s famed zero torque benefits. Curious to see how well it blends the new with the classic? Keep reading!

Eye Candy: The Looks

Let’s just say, if aesthetics matter to you, the OZ.1i HS doesn’t disappoint. It’s a large, angular mallet that combines sleek modern lines with a nod to the classics. This putter features a unique hosel placed at the heel but set back from the face, reminiscent of PXG’s S-Hosel. Unlike other models that might have a more avant-garde design, this one is clean, straightforward, and aims straight for the hole. Plus, you can customize it to your liking—options include eight head colors and multiple alignment aids. It’s a putter that not only performs but looks the part too!

Stellar Sound & Feel

Now let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. The ‘i’ in the name signifies that this is the insert version, and you’ll definitely notice the difference. With an aluminum head and a stainless steel insert, this putter gives you a firmer feel and faster ball speed compared to L.A.B.’s non-insert options. It’s worth noting that my experience with this model—fitted with a steel shaft—provided a firmer touch. The audible sound at impact is rated as a gentle “tock,” with variables depending on the ball used. Softer balls muted the sound, while firmer choices were more pronounced.

Performance That Delivers

When it comes to actual performance, the OZ.1i HS delivers on the brand’s promise of zero torque properties. If you’re someone who tends to steer the putter, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The putter is designed to keep itself square throughout your stroke, making hitting your intended line easy. Plus, it offers impressive forgiveness; small misses around the green won’t punish you too severely.

My Personal Experience

A little backstory: I’ve typically relied on a traditional Anser-style putter for most of my golfing days. However, I recently transitioned to the L.A.B. MEZZ.1 MAX because it offered better results, especially on mid-range putts. So, how did the OZ.1i HS stack up? Honestly, it felt immediately comfortable in my hands. During my first testing session, I found myself rolling 60-foot putts into easy gimme range—a feat I often struggle with.

Control Meets Assistance

What really struck me about the OZ.1i HS is how it balances control and simplicity. With many zero torque styles, you have to fully relinquish control to let the putter perform, which can be tricky. This new model feels like a sweet spot where it offers enough assistance without punishing you for minor steering. I’ve found the putter to do most of the work, which is exactly what you want—great results with a little bit of guidance.

The Grip: A Unique Touch

L.A.B. Golf has a signature Press grip, designed to counteract the built-in shaft lean. While I’ve generally found these grips feel normal, the less traditional design on the OZ.1i HS threw me off at first. But as always, the results won me over. Plus, if you’re not a fan of the unique grip, you can opt for a version without shaft lean.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i HS is a solid addition for any golfer looking for performance wrapped in style. I’m even considering making it a staple in my bag once I’m back on the greens post-knee surgery. Will it change everything for you? Maybe not, but it could definitely help you roll those flat sticks with a lot more confidence.
