Brooks Koepka Joining TGL? Here’s Why Rory McIlroy Would Love to See It Happen

Brooks Koepka: Future in TGL? Rory McIlroy Hopes to See Him Back in Action

Professional golfer Brooks Koepka is now on the hunt for his next opportunity after departing LIV Golf, where he spent the past three years. As one of golf’s prominent figures, the question arises: Could he make his comeback in TGL, the tech-driven indoor golf league co-founded by Rory McIlroy?

Welcome Back, Brooks Koepka?

In a recent press conference, McIlroy expressed his enthusiasm for the possibility of Koepka joining TGL. After his team’s season-opening victory at Boston Common, McIlroy stated, "I would love him to play. If there’s space on a team for Brooks to come and play, it only makes what we’re trying to do stronger." He emphasized Koepka’s significant achievements, noting, “He’s a five-time major champion and one of the best players of our generation.”

TGL: A New Chapter for Golf

TGL, which recently launched its second season, does not currently include any LIV Golf players. This season’s lineup notably excludes Tyrrell Hatton, who was originally set to join McIlroy’s Boston Common team before moving to LIV. The PGA Tour holds a partial ownership stake in TGL, signaling a potential pathway for Koepka to re-enter competitive play.

Koepka’s LIV Departure and Future Prospects

After much speculation, LIV Golf confirmed on December 23 that Koepka would no longer compete in their league going forward, even as he had one year remaining on his contract. This shift has left fans questioning his next move. Notably, he is currently exempt from all four major tournaments, but his plans beyond that remain uncertain.

The PGA Tour has maintained a largely ambiguous stance regarding the length of Koepka’s suspension, stating: “Brooks Koepka is a highly accomplished professional, and we wish him and his family continued success.” They further remarked on their platform, proclaiming the PGA Tour as the premier venue for golfers seeking to achieve greatness.

The Future: Potential Pathways Back to the PGA Tour

Could the PGA Tour make concessions to allow Koepka to return sooner rather than later? McIlroy appears open to the idea, noting in a recent podcast that he wouldn’t object to LIV players rejoining the Tour. He acknowledged, "They’ve made the money, but they’ve paid their consequence… If it made the overall Tour stronger to have Bryson DeChambeau back, I would be okay with it."

Challenges Ahead for Koepka

Despite the buzz surrounding their potential reunion, Koepka faced challenges while at LIV. In 2025, he could only manage two top-10 finishes, concluding the season in a disappointing 31st position out of 54 players. Moreover, his performance in the majors suffered significantly, resulting in missed cuts at three out of four tournaments.

As TGL evolves, could it serve as a bridge for Koepka’s return to top-tier golf? Only time will tell.

In summary, Brooks Koepka’s departure from LIV Golf marks a significant moment in his career. With Rory McIlroy’s support and the evolving landscape of professional golf, fans are left eagerly speculating about the future of one of the sport’s greats.
