Brooks Koepka Returns to PGA Tour After Four-Year Hiatus: A Look at His Journey

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Brooks Koepka is poised to make a significant return to the PGA Tour. The five-time major champion will tee off at the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open, marking his first PGA Tour event in almost four years. After spending most of the last four years competing in LIV Golf, Koepka was released from his contract on December 23, 2025.

The First Call: Reaching Out to Tiger Woods

Koepka’s first step after regaining his freedom? A phone call to none other than Tiger Woods.

"I’ve always had a good relationship with Tiger," Koepka shared during a pre-tournament news conference. "He was the first person that came to mind when I had the opportunity to get reinstated on the PGA Tour."

Why Tiger?

When asked why he chose to contact Woods first, Koepka replied:

"Tiger was somebody that I’ve relied on in the past for questions and answers on how to deal with things. It felt like the most comfortable call for me."

This sentiment emphasizes the lasting bond between these two golf legends and showcases Woods’ pivotal role in Koepka’s journey back.

Changes in the PGA Tour Landscape

Since Koepka’s departure from the PGA Tour in the summer of 2022, significant changes have taken place, including:

  • New CEO at the PGA Tour
  • Updated competitive structure
  • Larger payouts for winners
  • Ongoing evolution in tournament formats

Despite these changes, Tiger Woods remains a central figure in professional golf, and Koepka recognized him as the perfect person to consult during this transitional period.

Koepka stated, "I didn’t know Brian (Rolapp); I didn’t have a relationship with him obviously, just because he’s pretty new. Jay was going to be the next call, but I felt like talking to Tiger first was the right choice."

Woods Weighs In

Recently, after participating in a TGL match, Woods commented on Koepka’s return, stating:

"With Brooks’ addition to the Tour, it does. It makes it a better place to play. … It’s a win for everyone.”

This endorsement from Woods highlights the excitement surrounding Koepka’s return and the potential positive impact he can have on the Tour.

Conclusion

Thanks to the guidance from Tiger Woods and the PGA Tour’s evolving landscape, Brooks Koepka is back in the fold just over a month after officially leaving LIV Golf. Golf fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this comeback unfolds.
