Adam Sandler’s highly anticipated sequel, Happy Gilmore 2, is in the works almost 30 years after the original film premiered in 1996. The comedy sequel follows the story of failed hockey player turned golfer, Happy Gilmore, played by Sandler. Filming for the project began in September, and it has been revealed that two-time Major winner John Daly will have a role in the Netflix movie. Additionally, Christopher McDonald will reprise his role as Gilmore’s nemesis, Shooter McGavin, and Julie Bowen will return as Gilmore’s love interest, Virginia Venit.

In a recent appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Sandler shared some exciting details about the movie, including a scene he shot with legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, who is an 18-time Major winner. Sandler expressed his admiration for Nicklaus, stating that speaking to him on the phone before the shoot brought back memories of his childhood and his father’s appreciation for the golf icon. Sandler described Nicklaus as calming and knowledgeable, comparing his presence to that of late-night TV host Johnny Carson.

Daly’s announcement of his cameo in the film hinted at a possible release date in March or April, coinciding with The Masters tournament. However, Sandler revealed that the film is likely to be released next summer, possibly in July. He also teased that rapper Eminem and director Benny Safdie will make cameo appearances in Happy Gilmore 2. Sandler provided some insight into the sequel’s plot, stating that it follows an older Happy Gilmore who has been playing golf for a long time and is facing new challenges in his life.

According to Golf.com, most of the on-course filming for Happy Gilmore 2 took place at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club in Bedminster. The sequel promises to bring back the beloved characters and humor that made the original film a classic. With a star-studded cast that includes golfing legends like Jack Nicklaus and top celebrities like Eminem, fans can expect an entertaining and comedic sequel that pays homage to the sport of golf. Stay tuned for more updates on the release date and additional cameo appearances in Happy Gilmore 2.
