Adam Scott recently made a significant change to his iron setup during the Genesis Scottish Open, switching back to Project X LZ 6.5 iron shafts. Scott, known for his constant tinkering with equipment, had been using a set of custom Miura AS-1 blades before the change. The switch to a mixed setup featuring Srixon’s ZX MK II utility iron and Miura’s CB-302 and KM-700 irons was made to better suit the turf conditions in the United States after playing on firmer links-style courses in Scotland.

Despite his success with the Miura AS-1 blades in recent tournaments, Scott realized that the different grasses and turf conditions in the U.S. required a different iron setup. Along with changing the heads, Scott also switched to Project X’s LZ 6.5 iron shafts, which he had helped popularize in 2016. The familiarity of the mid-launch and spin profile of the PX LZ 6.5 shafts allowed Scott’s irons to feel “easy again” and he immediately saw improved results.

Scott’s decision to switch back to Project X LZ 6.5 iron shafts was influenced by a recent meeting in the UK with Titleist’s European director of tour operations, Liam McDougall. The meeting helped Scott get his irons back on track and regain confidence in his equipment. Scott admitted that his old-school methods of testing equipment may have contributed to his recent gear changes, and he acknowledged the importance of embracing technology in the professional game.

Scott’s recent switch in iron setup and shafts has shown immediate results, with improved confidence and performance on the course. By making adjustments to suit the turf conditions and choosing equipment that complements his swing tendencies, Scott has positioned himself for success in upcoming tournaments. With a renewed focus on equipment and technology, Scott is poised to make a push for a spot in the BMW Championship field.

As a passionate gearhead, Scott is always searching for the best setup that will enhance his performance on the golf course. Through trial and error, he has found a combination of heads and shafts that work best for him in different playing conditions. Scott’s willingness to make bold changes to his equipment demonstrates his commitment to optimizing his game and staying competitive at the highest level of professional golf.

Scott’s recent switch back to Project X LZ 6.5 iron shafts highlights the importance of equipment customization and adaptation to changing course conditions. By working closely with equipment manufacturers and tour operations experts, Scott has been able to fine-tune his iron setup for maximum performance. His openness to trying new technologies and embracing modern equipment trends bodes well for his future success in professional golf.

Moving forward, Scott plans to continue refining his equipment setup and staying up-to-date on the latest technology and advancements in golf gear. By staying proactive in the equipment testing process and seeking expert advice, he aims to maintain a competitive edge on the PGA Tour. With a renewed focus on equipment and technology, Scott is well-positioned to achieve his goals and compete at the highest level of professional golf.
