Sabrina Coffman of Toledo, Ohio, and Jacqueline Setas of East Lansing, Michigan, tied for medalist honors at the 37th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, finishing the stroke-play portion at 3 over. The event took place at Brae Burn Country Club in West Newton, Massachusetts, where 64 golfers advanced to the match-play stage. Among the qualifiers was Alexandra Austin of Fairfax, Virginia, who is six months pregnant and tied for third in stroke play. Austin, who was a quarterfinalist in the 2023 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, won her Monday match against Olivia Herrick of Hugo, Minnesota, 4 and 3.

Austin’s success in the tournament despite her pregnancy is not surprising to some, as two-time champion Julia Potter-Bobb noted that pregnancy can sometimes lead to better ballstriking due to changes in a woman’s body. Potter-Bobb praised Austin’s performance and ball-striking abilities, acknowledging that Austin’s understanding of her center of gravity could be contributing to her success on the course. The competition, which is the 14th of 16 USGA championships in 2024, will see Austin move on to the Round of 32 as she continues her impressive run in the tournament.

The event will culminate in an 18-hole final on Thursday, where the remaining competitors will battle it out for the championship title. With a field of skilled golfers from various locations across the country, the level of competition promises to be intense as the players strive to outplay each other and emerge as the ultimate victor. The Brae Burn Country Club provides a challenging course that tests the skills and abilities of the golfers, making precision and accuracy crucial for success in the tournament.

As the competition progresses, spectators and fans eagerly await the final results to see who will be crowned the champion of the 37th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur. The event serves as a platform for amateur female golfers to showcase their talents and compete against some of the best players in the country. With the support of their fellow competitors, friends, and family members, the participants give their all on the course, demonstrating their dedication and passion for the game of golf. The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur continues to be a prestigious event in the world of women’s amateur golf, providing a platform for players to excel and make their mark in the sport.
